Any Dark Horses At Mylot?

@Kandae11 (55131)
April 14, 2022 8:02pm CST
The idiom Dark Horse means a person who is kind of secretive about their interests and ideas. A person who has a surprising skill or talent --but very few people know about it. Here is an example : " George is such a dark horse, l never knew he was such a skillful rider." So do we have any dark horses at Mylot? , members with skills or abilities we know nothing about? Feel free to share. Note: The dark horse expression originates from horse racing. A dark horse was one that was not known before the race, but managed to win the race. Pixabay image.

I would call myself a light horse, according to your explanation. I tell everybody about my interests and about the things I like.

I never heard about the dark horses saying before. I do not know if there are skills that I hide to myLotters. I am sure I posted something I painted, I often say that I like cooking and gardening. I should think about this.

@Kandae11 If being a dark horse means being shy, well I am for sure a dark horse. I also undervalue me all the time.

@LadyDuck l am like that sometimes, but not all the time. Sometimes l am confident about my ability to do something and other times my confidence is lacking. It might take a number of persons to tell me " Yes you can, l know you can do this".

The word hiding sounds a bit sneaky ha. It is more like being shy or preferring to surprise someone with an ability or skill you might have.

Well, there are things about me I just don't mention on myLot . . . not for any reason, it just hasn't come up . Some people know or may remember me mention it, but I took my childhood rollerskating dreams and lived it through figure skating in my adult life. I trained, competed and performed . . . it was an amazing time!

@Kandae11 I may have already (I've just been on this process of deleting old posts . . . not sure if they are still there) . . . either here or on other sites. But I can always bring up old memories again .

I'd like to hear more about it. I played baseball in college and softball after that. One of my teammates guarded a famous American athlete when they competed against each other in college. But I don't think I've mentioned it on MyLot.

Ha, ha ha. I was thinking the same thing. And yes, that word has been used quite a bit. I think it depends on how it is put over. A statement can be made without it sounding too bragadocious.

No one has to give any information about themselves that they don't want anyone to know about. But there are a lot of people who do good and have surprising talents, but they don't shout it out to the world, they work quietly behind the scenes. Some times those works and talents need to be heralded.

@snowy22315 Some people are shy and if prompted they will share. Some people like to hear about the good things that people are doing - not only the bad. Some stories tend to inspire others.

@Kandae11 Back before I lost my coordination and some of my sight and had to quit, I made for family gifts and friends and even sold a few pieces trying to load a photo of the necklace on my daughter the one with hair pulled back

I knew about the saying, since I'm a horsie sort of gal. However, while there maybe people here that don't know me, since I wasn't around much for quite a while because I couldn't respond to things, I think if people look back at my old posts they will find I have few secrets...

Ah! So it's a positive thing. A hidden talent or something like that. Reading "dark horse", I initially thought it might refer to something negative. Dark, you know.

Yeah it is positive. You have a special talent or skill but you don't go on a roof top and shout it out to the world.You do what you do quietly, then an occasion may arise, your skill is revealed and people are surprised.
