Celebrating Our Anniversary Tonight

Although tomorrow is our official 12-year wedding anniversary, my husband has a very tiring work day scheduled for tomorrow and won't be up to doing much celebrating.
So we are going out to dinner tonight instead. I really enjoy our anniversary celebrations. We don't do presents but we do cards and go out to dinner, and during dinner, we always reminisce about our favorite happenings on that day.
When we get home, I pull out the scrapbooks of our wedding and honeymoon and we have fun looking at all of the photos and remembering. It makes for a wonderful evening.
How do you celebrate your wedding anniversary?

@Kouponkaren We do all these things as a family - it's fine with us - but yah, it's not the most "romantic" way of celebrating .

Nice for the kids that you bring them along but probably not so romantic? LOL!

@Kouponkaren He’s very old fashioned and he loves to have roses delivered. I just got some on the 20th for my birthday.

Aw, roses? That's very sweet. We decided not to get each other anything on our anniversary. We just do cards and dinner out.

@Kouponkaren You get to an age when you can't be bothered going out at night

Aw, I am so sorry about the loss of your husband. Lunch is less expensive than dinner so you saved money that way.

Hm, a day trip with lunch sounds like a good idea. I will mention that to him for next year.

Yes, we did go to a nice place and had a nice meal. Plus it was 40 minutes away so we had a nice drive there and back.

When we remember it we usually go out to eat We have both been known to forget what day it is. One year we both had the flu and finally remembered a week later.

Oh no! I never forget...like an elephant that way I guess. Mostly on special dates. Like I still remember the date of our very first date!

Oh I am sorry about your husband's passing. My husband is much older than me so I don't know how many years we will have together, but that makes each anniversary extra special.

@kouponkaren Happy anniversary and May there be many more. Ours is in first week of September when we usually go on holiday to County Mayo and we go to our favourite restaurant there.

@Kouponkaren Ours is two days after my wife’s birthday so it’s a combo celebration.

Oh that sounds like a wonderful way to celebrate. We don't usually go away for our anniversary. We like to cruise but we usually go in Spring and Fall. That would actually be a fun thing to do though. I will talk to my husband about maybe going away for an overnight or at least a day trip for our next anniversary.

@Kouponkaren That's a good idea too - to spread the joy over a few days.

I made a scrapbook of our wedding and honeymoon that we were supposed to look at and reminisce over last night on our actual anniversary but my hubby was too tired after working all day so we are going to do that tonight before bed. It's like spreading our anniversary out throughout the week!

Thanks. It was a good dinner. I had a flatbread with a chocolate lava cake for dessert. We each brought half of our dinner home and had leftovers last night.

Well, congratulations on being a newlywed. That was an exciting time for us. And for a long time, we were able to stay in that newlywed "honeymoon happy" stage. That was nice. But then things happened in our families and stress hit, so we still love each other very much but with all the ups and downs and stress, I would say after 12 years we are no longer in the "honeymoon happy" stage anymore!

@Kouponkaren thank you. I thought I would not have this phase considering we were living together for six years prior and I already felt married but yeah I’m feeling the honeymoon phase lol

Thanks. Me too. Due to the age he was when we got married (75) I didn't even expect this many years together, so I am grateful for each one!

I usually like to celebrate things on the actual day they happened, BUT in this case, I knew he would be really tired and not up for a celebration. It worked out fine.
