Almost started a fire in my kitchen!

I got a very cute "mosquito-chasing-incense holder" that looks like an owl. You put the coil inside the clay body and light it, and it hangs freely so it can put out smoke. Unfortunately, I am used to using the kind where the incense coil lies flat. It didn't occur to me that I had ignited three layers of the coil. I left the room to get the cat's walking harness and when I came back in, flames were coming from it! Fortunately, it was on my stainless steel kitchen counter. However, I will be careful to blow out the flame next time. When you use the flat ones, the flame goes out naturally, leaving a glowing stick.
It reminded me of my parents lighting Christmas candles once, and I had a friend over. Suddenly he said, "Oh. Look" very calmly. We looked and the candles were drooping over and burning themselves quite energetically! My mom quickly put them out.
That's enough playing with fire. I'll stick with lava from now on.
Have you ever done anything like that?

No, nothing like that. I'm scared of fires so am normally very careful with them.
I like to burn candles in my bedroom but have a glass enclosure so the flame can't go anywhere except on the wick. Even do, if I leave my bedroom, the candle gets blown out first.
I'm glad you saw the flames before you took your kitty for a walk.

I actually stopped burning candles after the 2011 earthquake. I don't want them to topple over even if I'm in the room with them, not to mention a curious cat singed one side of whiskers on one once.

@petatonicsca Ohhh, I see... Earthquakes are unknown in the part of the US where I live. And I'm allergic to furbabies so we don't have to worry about them, either.

well, i once left the iron plugged and it created an ember on the wooden ironing board. lol. good thing my eldest sister was there and she calmly put out the ember by pouring water on it out of a flower vase. whew. i was in grade 4 and was just learning how to iron my school uniforms. i have become super vigilant since then.

Touch wood, the worse we've had was fat in a frying pan igniting when we were in a caravan on our honeymoon. That was interesting for a few minutes.
