School kids are overwhelmed by a visit from Keith Urban

Vince just called me to watch a video of school-kids in the town of Urbenville, on the coast of northern New South Wales in Australia. At the start of the pandemic, students would sing for the Urbenville Aged Care facility residents while standing outside. When restrictions were tightened, they turned to Facebook to post songs of hope and support. The sixteen students, taught by a husband and wife team, are great fans of country singer and song-writer, Keith Urban, and sing a lot of his songs. They wrote to invite him to their concert. While other commitments stopped him attending, he was impressed by what they were doing and organised a surprise Zoom visit. He spoke to the students for some minutes. Urban donated sixteen guitars, one for each student, and has invited them all to his next concert in Brisbane. I’m sure that will be appreciated more than the air guitars that, as a joke, the headmaster had promised them. One lad in the front row is so overcome he can’t stop crying. At one stage, his little mate puts an arm around him and gives him a hug then offers him a handkerchief. I was nearly crying myself at that point. It is a real feel-good video clip. Here's a link: Country music star Keith Urban surprises biggest little fans at Urbenville Public School with live Zoom chat - ABC News The photo is another shot of the house which we’re minding at the moment.

I am a fan of Keith Urban. He’s a much better singer than his lesser known cousin - Brian Rural.

@JudyEv I never actually seen him so can’t comment. He gets played a lot on BBC radio 2 over here and although I’m not a big country music fan, I like most of his stuff. Including Nicole of course, who is a nice bit of stuff.

@JudyEv It is just like when I throw those parties for the kids. I think I get more from those parties.

@allknowing I was thinking of that when I wrote the comment. You got a lot of pleasure from organising those parties.

That's true. The singer would have got as much from it as the kids.

I would love to surround my Mobile Home with an open porch like that, it would make my home so much cooler in the summer and probably warmer in the winter ..... Or maybe I just need to get a new roof.

@rebelann The verandahs make a place much cooler. All the older houses had them.

It would have gone right round the house once but now there has been a kitchen added, a laundry and en ensuite off one bedroom. There have all been built in under the eaves.

What a treat. Keith and Nicole live here in Nashville. So cool to hear what he is doing in his home country. Sounds like a great setup. I know those students will never forget the visit and enjoy the guitars.

Some celebrities do some wonderful things. I remember seeing Roger Federer keeping a promise made ten years ago to a young tennis player who is now coming up through the ranks. He was just so kind to him.

@CarolDM They should. I just read how much Djokovic has won in tennis and it's billions. Unfortunately I can't remember the figure.

This is a wonderful story Judy. Those students were so kind to sing for for the Urbenville Aged Care facility residents and Keith Urban was really nice to show up and offer sixteen guitars to those student. Good people still exist, may be more than we often imagine.

Isn't it just a great story? They 'unveiled' five guitars there and then and the rest are on their way.

That's a lovely house in the picture. So fun to be amidst such landscape and natural beauty I can understand how overwhelming it would be to come across your hero. That's a really feel good story. These children did a noble job and good that they are acknowledged

That is really nice. He gets around. I just saw him on the Ellen Degeneres show although it was filmed last year. He may or may not have given her a guitar, not certain, but it was a very valuable one.

That’s very nice of him! You know what I would LOVE to hear: in 10-15 years, some rising music star says, “When I was in school Keith Urban did a Zoom chat with my class and gave us guitars, and that’s why I’m here today.”

They had five guitars hidden near the kids and 'unveiled' them during the Zoom session and he promised that more were on the way so they'd all have one each. And wouldn't it be great if one or more went on to have a musical career? It could well happen.
