Have you heard of this brand of toilet paper?

We have just received the box of toilet paper which you can see in the photo. It’s made from bamboo by a company called ‘Who Gives A Crap’. The company was started by three young men, Simon, Jehan and Danny, who launched the company with a crowdfunding campaign on IndieGoGo, after learning that over 2 billion people don’t have access to a toilet. Each year, diarrhoeal diseases caused by poor water and sanitation kill around 289,000 children under five. The first product was delivered in March 2013. The company donates 50% of its profits to help build toilets in underprivileged areas. The price is comparable. Delivery took two days and we purchased 48 double length rolls. We first used it at one of our house-sits and were impressed enough to buy a box. It’s a clever name too.

It's good that the company donates 50% of its profits to help build toilets in underprivileged areas. It they are available in Hong Kong, I'll buy too.

@Beestring I really don't know. We'd heard of it before from a relative then we saw and used it in one of our house-sits but that's about it.

@Treborika The problem might be that I think it is more expensive.

I like their idea of donating to underprivileged areas. I cannot say that the name of the company does anything for me, but it must for others. It isn't a name that you would forget easily.

It's not the nicest name but I guess there are dozens who wouldn't give a *** about the name.

I'm not fussed about the name either really. I'm old-fashioned in many ways but most don't care at all about such things and I guess gradually you get used to it.

Never heard of them, but it is a great idea for a name of a toilet roll company. It made me smile when I saw it.

@JudyEv A bit of fun is just what we all need at the moment. Is this what they mean by toilet humour?

A friend tried this during the pandemic. She said she bought it because the name was so strange, she had to try it out. They do sell it on Amazon, that's where she got hers.

@JudyEv I am not sure if just using toilet paper would be sufficient. I have used it while on tour but the moment I came back to the hotel I washed myself with water and soap. (lol)

I've read that bamboo is very sustainable due to the fast rate at which it grows.

True. I don't know how sustainable bamboo is but hopefully they've done a bit of research on it.

A very clever name indeed. I have never heard of this brand. It would probably sell like crazy here in the US if stores would stock it on their shelves.

@JudyEv You're probably right. If it's a recent startup company, they probably don't have the capacity yet to mass produce enough product to fill store shelves.

They have clever little writings too on the packets etc. Vince has just purchased shampoo and conditioner bar from them. They're suppose to last a lot longer than the bottles. We'll see.
