Last night we heard lightning very loud

I am sure most of you that have pets know that their hearing is so much better than ours that loud sounds bother them. Well, last night thank heavens we were both up and in the same room and we heard lightning and it was very loud. At the same time someone's alarm went off too and both were going on. My cat looked at the window and I was trying to tell her how she was doing because it was so loud and it must have bothered her. I tried to reassure her that it would pass and it did but she kept staring at the window. I did not hear if the rain followed and will not be outside today so do not know how the weather really is. I look out the window and it could rain. I have not opened the window yet to see if it is cool or not. Now, would be the time for it to start raining because I started to pray for it.

Sounds like you had a thunderstorm passing over . It probably didn’t do any damage or you would have heard by now. It’s still bright and sunny here.

@RubyHawk Animals have better hearing than we do so she hears more. I have good hearing and can you imagine that she has been than that and it really bothered Sophie. No damage because after the lightning stopped did not hear anything else and the alarm was taken care of so it was back to normal again.

Kitty has finally gotten used to the sound of the Big Ble Monster, the garbage truck. We rarely have lightning storms here, so I do not know how she would react to thunder.

@TheHorse I am glad that kitty is used to the garbage truck and I hope Kitty does not have to experience thunder and if you do get it then you will know whether or not it scares Kitty or not.

@Juliaacv The lightning was very loud and the alarm going off did not help. My cat hears so much more than I do so it really bothered her. Do the twins experience scary feelings when they hear thunder?

@Hannihar Not at all, they are still so very young that they do not know what all of the sounds are from that they hear.

@Juliaacv I thought when you were talking about children that maybe you were talking about the twins and lightning. I guess I was wrong. Are you talking about when your children were young?

@Marilynda1225 It is very hard on animals. Their hearing is so much better than ours and loud noises like that can bother them. Does anything else bother your dog besides lightning? My cat when the elevator door opens if she is by it she will come racing in the apartment.

@nela13 They have better hearing than we do and it is harder on them. Here an alarm went off too during the lightning and but I think the lightning was the problem. I hope the lightning where you were did not last long and they were ok after it was over.

Cats are very sensitive. When my cat hears the sound of the door opening or the sound of people chatting, he immediately wakes up.

@sickly09 If my cat is in the hallway exploring and she hears the elevator door open she will run inside. She has great hearing so things bother her more.

@Hannihar I think that's one of the problems for cats. Because they are too sensitive, when they sleep they like to wake up suddenly. That must be annoying. But I guess not all cats.

@sickly09 Sometimes I disturb my cat when she is having one of her naps and I do not like to bother her but it seems like she can go back to sleep again. I on the other hand have a hard time falling asleep as it is and to be disturbed by being woken up it is hard for me to fall asleep again. Yes, my cat is very sensitive to things. I wonder what her life was like with the family that found her and if she was not happy with them. She does not like too many people so she goes and hides when it gets to be too much or if it is someone she does n not know very well she may hide until she gets to know them better.

@Shavkat That is not weird. Everyone has their likes and dislikes about things. I was not sleeping. As a matter of fact I was watching TV and my cat was either sleeping on the chair or laying on it and when the lightning started she did not like it and then an alarm went off at the same time. Now, I am wondering about the alarm if the weather triggered it or something happened that it went off. It finally stopped and I have no clue as to why it went off. It is nice to see your whole face in the picture you put there.

Some animals are terrified of thunder and lightning. I hope Sophie didn't get too worried by all that was going on.

@JudyEv Thank you Judy for your concern. After the alarm stopped going off and the lightning stopped she stared at the window a little bit and then was ok. I think she was very worried while it all went on. She is ok now.
