More Christmas lights on the canals

I promised you a photo of one of the more highly decorated mansions on the canals in Mandurah in Western Australia and here it is. The forecast had been for thunderstorms in the evening and sure enough, we had quite a lot of thunder and lightning while we were on the boat but the rain held off till we alighted from the bus back at the village. Then, some of us had to run the last few metres to our houses. We booked out the ‘pirate boat’ and were encouraged to wave our fists and shout ‘Aarrgh’ at all the other tourist craft – and there were a lot. But it was as if the powers-that-be were saying ‘you want lights and noise, I’ll give you lights and noise’ as the sky show and thunder far surpassed anything we were seeing.

Oh, my goodness! They're using enough electricity to run a small city! It is lovely, though.

That is really beautiful. Those people are going to have high electric bills.

They are indeed and the fancy lights would cost a small fortune in the first place.

@judyev I’m am glad not to be paying their electric bill. I also do like the verb ‘to alight’. I never ever get off a bus, I always alight.

I practically laughed my socks off when travelling by train in the US; passengers were requested to 'detrain'.

I had to go back to see if I'd used 'alight'. It seems I did!

Oh that is nice the entire house is covered with lights. We also have like that in here where the whole street do cover their houses with lights like that. It is nice to look at but I am just not sure about the cost of electricity for having those lit up.

@JudyEv Yeah those that do that become a tourist spot of soe sort since many people would usually flock there and take a picture of their house.

We do have streets of houses lit up too and people drive past slowly taking in all the decorations. There are a bit different as you have to go by boat to see them.

Looks like something we would have on TV here, The Great Christmas Light Fight. For those people Christmas lights are their life.

Being on water while there's a thunderstorm would terrify me, I am a land lubber after all. That mansion is stunning but I wouldn't want to see their electric bill.

Luckily we were off the water before the storm really hit. There was a group going out after us. I hope they didn't get too wet.

There were a dozen or so houses just as fancy. I couldn't be bothered myself but it was nice to see them - and good of the people to go to such an effort.

There's something exciting about thunder and lightning. I would always keep my blinds or shades open so I could get the full effect from the time I was a child. I'm sure the one you experienced was just as good as it gets. The boat trip sounds like fun especially shouting Aarrgh to passing crafts. I love the picture.

It would cost a small fortune to set up some of the displays. At one place, the top half of the reindeers had gone on the blink (so to speak). lol
