I taught one of my music students John Denver's "Take Me Home Country Roads" tonight. Have you heard of that song?

I have been teaching my 16-year-old guitar student some pretty obscure Jesse Winchester songs recently. She is really sweet, but I realized I was leading her down a path of folk songs that many people don't know. Tonight I taught her John Denver's "Country Roads." I was a kid at Summer Camp when that song came out (or at least when I first heard it), and I could tell it was going to be a hit, even as a sprout. Have you heard it? Maybe I'll attach a link. I also taught her some bluegrass l*cks (you figure out why I had to use a star there), including the "Flatt run." Now I get to sleep. Kitty has taught me that sleeping is something one should do as often as possible.

It's a timeless old song that old and young alike seem to enjoy. He had such a great voice.

He did. And he seemed to have a gentle spirit. I never met him in real life, though.

@noni1959 It is. I never did research how his crash occurred.

@TheHorse It would have been nice to go to a concert. His voice was so smooth. It's so sad he crashed.

It's a classic and one of my all time favorites! Should listen to it again, now that you've reminded me about it.

I just did. The recording I attached is "bright" sounding, but I still love it.

I like the song very much and I can sing it as well. I used to teach my students to sing the song. Both the melody and lyrics are easy to understand. Also I like It Never Rains in California, an interesting song.

@vandana7 We went to Thailand back in about 1998 with a group of school-boys. At midnight in a restaurant near our hotel, a Thai band was singing this, complete with Thai accents.
