Would you buy watermelon sold like this?

My neighbor next to our home sells newly harvested melons from their farm at 25 pesos a kilo as shown in the tag. I was so intrigued whether the melons taste sweet for they're not big. There are also smaller than the ones displayed outside their small store guarded by their clever pups.
Then, I bought 2, one somewhat big and small. I washed them well under the running water. My sister told me straightly why bought the melons that look tasteless and then she's right. When they're cut and sliced, the content is tasteless, unripe. My bad, but I didn't return for a refund to avoid another conflict.
In your case would you buy this kind sold outside and near the road? Can you determine if melon is sweet or not by just looking at it Thanks for reading, sharing is caring.

Here they are not in season and would not be good. I look at the stem, and then look to see if they are yellow on bottom. I always hope they "thump" when I hit them and I hope they are good.

@GardenGerty, they're not good inside. We fed the smaller melon to my sister's rooster.

I remember that I bought watermelons not depending on the size but on how they sounded.

@allknowing you're so right. We're cheated by the seller. This day I noticed they displayed so many and I checked them in the afternoon no one buys the melon. They're the same so plenty. Buyers felt disappointed.

@sathviksouvik they're newly harvested. The only problem is they're not sweet. They're not yet matures. The owner made a forced harvest.

I remember buying watermelons not depending on their size, but on their color pattern.

@suwardie03 aw, okay I'll observe it. I plan to buy a big melon tomorrow and ask someone to determine it if ripe or not.

@cacay1 if not, the color pattern can be seen from the stem too. is it dry or is it still young.

It is really a gamble when you buy fruits there are times you need to make good judgments when deciding to buy or not. I am not an expert in looking for a good or bad fruit but by looking at it was some kind of pale and not that green like those of the normal looking watermelons.

If I was not sure I would not risk it, I am never really sure how to tell if the melons are ripe,

@RasmaSandra, it's my fault buying without consulting to my sister. Our home is next to this store. We didn't complain to avoid trouble All we do is never buy again.

If the stem is green usually the melon is, that's been my experience

To be sure if it is sweet or tasteless l never buy them whole. If they are not already cut in half and l can see the color of the flesh - which should be red - not pink, then l request that they cut it. Someone will buy the other half - it won't be wasted.

I buy fresh fruits in wet market or in supermarket. I hesitate to buy those selling on the street.

@cacay1 I mean, you can tell them as if you are telling them feedback. If they return your money that's good.

@thislittlepennyearns,I'll try to taste sample melon next time and prefer the sliced one to make sure it's ripe and sweet.

@thislittlepennyearns yes it seems but if there are many people at home to eat melon, no choice, but to buy the whole part.

I see they are placed in front of some sort of dog cage. I would be worried that the dog had been to the toilet near or on the melons.

@lazydaizee they have 1 hectare melon farm. Their bigger melons were bought by retailers direct to their farm. They have caretakers. I've learned the one they sold are reject. They're cheating. They better give the rejected ones for free to feed for the cows, chickens or roosters.

@cacay1 Nice to hear their dog is well trained and good to know that they have time to grow melons as well as having jobs. They sound like busy people.
