What's fascinating about true crime documentaries?

I've been into the true crime documentaries on Netflix lately. Not sure why. It probably should freak me out, considering that in most of these crimes, women are the primary targets. The Ted Bundy Tapes, for instance, was just gruesome. What do you think draws us into watching these kinds of things?

I watch crime shows almost every day. I enjoy it because of the adrenaline, the thrill... it's what keeps me watching. Of course, it's terrifying and all, especially if it's a true story but it baffles me and bemoan the fact that humans are capable of such heinous behavior. In case you want to watch more true crime shows, there are plenty on YouTube.

Same here. It's fascinating to wonder what could have pushed someone over the edge like that.

I find this sort of documentary really scary because the events happened to real people. It is not so bad with fictional characters because I can be frightened while watching the film but then afterwards I reassure myself that it was make believe and would not happen in real life. Some people enjoy true crime documentaries because they can remember seeing the events on the news and in the papers years ago.

I think why I like them so much is because I am truly scared of taking a life. Rarely can I wrap my head around why they decided to take someone's life. I think we watch them for the same reason we watch horror movies. It is a good reminder that people are not always what they seem. Keep your eyes open and pay attention to what is going on around you.

Yep! It's definitely a good way to keep yourself informed, too. Then, you know what to watch out for.
