If a beggar turned up at your door?

Would you offer them food, turn them away, or hide until they went away! I'd give them food because that's the kind of person I am, and Jesus did say,'what you do unto others, you do unto me'. AND, if I was in the beggars situation, I'd want to be helped.

This is realy not so simple to answere. These days you can't be too carefull.I wouldn't stop to pick up a hitch hiker unless they were old, a woman or man with kids, so I think I would be very leary of opening the door for a beggerif I were alone. I'm not sure what I would do. I really hope that I would depend on God for my safty and feed the person. but I really don't

I wouldn't pick up a hitch hiker either, just seen one too many horror movies for that to happen! lol! And I suppose I would feel a lot better if someone was in the house with me if there was a beggar there.

i have a sighn that i made stuck to my door.it says"no religions,no charities,no power suppliers.DO NOT KNOCK" i know where the churches are,i give to and buy from charity shops all of the time and if i want to change power suppliers i have a telephone directory.i feel terrible for homeless people and if a begger knocked on my door i would give them something but i would feel harrased by the fact that they had knocked on my door.

Fair enough that you would feel harassed, but sometimes people are that stuck. It's great that you buy from charity shops etc, i give away old clothes etc myself. And at Xmas I like to do that thing where you get a shoebox, fill it with toys and it gets sent to underpriviliged kids in other European countries.

I would give the beggar some food or some change if I had any lyingaround. I may even give some clothing if it worked out. I wouldn't turn him away but I also wouldn't let him in because it is not safe to do so.

Seems I am one of those people who collect lost pets and people. Of course I would feed them. A kindness done for another is a kindness to myself.

No doubt many will say yes it's the 'morale' thing to do, though I've no need to lie and kid myself the fact is the door to my house is just abit to personal. I would not help anyone at my doorstep of course unless it was really serious. If I was caught in the street however that would be a deferent matter all together, I've bought a bag of chips for a few homeless people, some will turn you around with a flea in your ear (not literally, however pun accepted) and others will be very thankful.

I find it very hard to walk by people collecting money. I nearly always give something, but at this time of year there are just so many!

We are very lucky to live in a society where we don't have a lot of beggars except in large cities and they mostly busk, but I would definately give him food or clothing that he needed. I also believe that you should help out others as it eventually comes back to you (not that you look for it at the time) You never know when it will be you needing a little help with something.

I agree, if only people would treat others how they themselves would like to be treated, it would be a much better world.

"Give a man a fish and you will feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you will feed him for a lifetime" Feed him and he will return again for more. Better give him a chore he can do for you and then give him some cash. This will teach him to work and earn a little money.

That's a good idea, but I probably wouldn't have the heart to ask him to do anything for me.

Yah, i hate when people have double standards, if someone else is in trouble they're not bothered, but when it's them who needs help they expect it.
