Ground Beef of All Things

Many don’t eat beef due to cultural reasons, diet, or health reasons, but hubs and I do.
Although we have cut way back on eating red meat, we couldn’t resist buying 8 pounds or almost 4 kilograms of ground beef that our butcher ground freshly for us and had on sale!
I used it to make meatloaf, meatballs, hamburgers, and sliders (tiny hamburgers), and the rest was divided into little portions for tacos. It’s all stuffed into my freezer for quick and easy meals.
Last night we had sliders and boy were they good as well as cute
We have 7 weeks left in Florida and a lot of food to eat up!

I guess you will be eating your fair share of red meat. I eat a lot more turkey or chicken these days when I want meat. I know, have a barbecue!

@DianneN Not much of a fan of labor intensive cooking myself... Leave it to the Julia Child's of the world!

@DianneN Banning cow slaughter is for religious reasons but my not eating meats is just my choice.

It's so true. However, I decided to make an Asian inspired meal with chicken for dinner tonight. I spent a couple of hours in the kitchen dicing, chopping, mixing, mincing, and stirring and haven't even cooked dinner, yet. I swear I'd rather order in or go out for dinner.

That’s awesome you made so many freezer meals to heat up when you want them. I use a lot of ground beef here but I buy it in the freezer section in tubes at Aldis. We have a local butcher shop in town but they don’t actually butcher the animals anymore and the prices are a lot higher than Aldis. My husband buys steaks there though.

I buy 5 lbs of ground beef (80% lean) and mix it with 2 lbs of premium ground pork. I freeze it in 1 lbs packs. Then use it for burgers or in pasta dishes.

@DianneN Thank you. I like experimenting in the kitchen. It's rare that something gets thrown out because I goof it.

I found a new appreciation for beef since moving to Zambia lol . I enjoy cooking and most of my go to recipes are with pork or chicken(most Serbian traditional recipes are with pork)but most of my friends in Zambia don’t eat pork so I have been learning many new beef recipes. Just last night we had beef tacos and ‘twas delicious. I’m trying meatloaf next never done it before.

@Greencindere That's just fine. Cooking is very therapeutic. Tonight I am making up an Asian inspired recipe. I spent a couple of hours mincing, dicing, chopping, stirring, beating, and wasting myLot time. I hope hubs likes it. He's so fussy

@DianneN I actually have TikTok only for recipes lol . I’m not creating just following and getting ideas. Got into cooking when I was 25 and now it’s a daily routine… therapeutic indeed

Never! We go out most Friday nights and have a play to attend this Friday as well. If we don't eat up everything in our freezer, it will all go to my friend. She's staying until June and everyone else is leaving at various times in April.

i wouldn't mind stocking up on freshly ground beef even if it totals to 4 kilos! :D and yes, i'd portion them right away. i bought a kilo of ground beef on sale last week and just dumped it all in the freezer. i was that lazy. but then i ended up portioning them because it got overwhelming seeing that huge pack in the freezer every day.

That's good that you were able to buy it fresh like that, and on sale. Sounds like good things to make out of it

@DianneN That's good that he is, I don't know any butchers myself. We don't get our meat that way. Just get what we can afford. But that's good to hear. That is very true, it does make life a lot easier!
Nothing is good there that you could order from?

@MommyOfEli2013 Hubs prefers to go out or get takeout The food that can be ordered is pretty crummy around here.
