The rest of Easter break

Sunday morning I woke up to the house being chilly and a propane heater in the living room. I had asked my husband a few weeks ago to check the fuel tank for me and he said he wasn’t worried as the fuel oil will last a lot longer. He was wrong.
He waited until my dad woke up to borrow a large funnel off him then he went to the gas station and got some kerosene to put in our tank.
My oldest daughter came home around 11am so I could give her and her siblings their Easter baskets.
I had filled 150 +eggs with candy, nickels and Penny’s. I had some empty eggs left so I thought it would be funny to put silly things in them. You can see in the photo some of the things. Some of the other items were dandelions, duck sauce, rubber bands, a disposable glove, an old house key, receipts and papers that said nope.
My sister hid a metallic orange egg with $20 in it. It was in the crook of a tree that had been cut down. My stepson spotted it and had to climb the ladder to get it.
We went to my sisters for dinner. I made Oreo peanut butter bars, soda, mashed potatoes, hot cross buns, and Mac and cheese. When we got home two hours later we found my husband had left the oven on after he took the ham out. Oops I’m just glad it was him this time and not me.
Monday there was no school. The baby had me up until 1am the night before and I knew I’d be too tired to drive so I cancelled an appointment the baby had which was a 4 hour drive round trip. Just a yearly appointment so I didn’t mind cancelling it.
My husband went outside to the load the beagles up while I went to get my daughter for work and he came in carrying his one 7 year old dog who was laying in vomit and barely breathing and not moving.
He got his washed up got a heater blowing on him and was giving him water through a w medicine syringe.
About an hour later her died. We think he had a heart attack and then his heart gave out. He was very high strung and always running back and forth non stop in his kennel and barking.

I'm sure the kids enjoyed the weird items in the plastic eggs.

@shaggin Well, yeah, younger kids would still think finding weird things in the eggs is funny. I'm sure the older kids weren't thrilled with your stroke of genius.

I am so sorry for the dog, those dogs are usually strong dogs, she was not even too old.
We have those big chocolate eggs here, that have a "surprise" inside, it can be pralines for adults or a small gift for boys and girls. I love them because they are beautiful.

@LadyDuck I hate animals living outside. The darn cat keeps running out and I have to go out and grab him. I was hanging the clothes out on the line and he jumped out the window. My son went out to get him and when he saw my son he jumped back in the window and when my son turned to leave he went to jump out again . I grabbed him and put him in another room.

@LadyDuck living outside I think shortens a dogs life span. They are hunting dogs so they run hard chasing rabbits all the time. He probably would have had a heart attack while chasing one on Easter if I hadn’t complained about my husband always taking them out on holidays and things when I need help with the baby.
I’ve seen chocolates by that brand but never the one in the photo. It really does look good and having had that brand many times I bet it tastes just as good as it looks.

@shaggin - You are right that living outside shortens the life of dogs, as well as cats. They run, they stay out sometimes in the cold and the heat, they can get sick exactly the same as humans.
Lindt is a very good brand, their chocolate is always good.

I feel sick about the poor, sweet dog. I feel terrible for you all. I hope as the weeks have gone by the pain has lessened at least a little bit.
On a sweeter note, I absolutely love what you did with the Easter baskets. It is definitely something my late mother would/did do.

That is a sad thing that you could not understand why your dog was behaving that way in the kennel. May be he wanted freedom

@allknowing I don’t consider them my dogs. My husband got them before we were married when we were just dating. I tried for years to talk him out of it because I hate animals having to live outside that way. It isn’t fair of them having to live out in kennels in the elements while the other dogs of ours live in the house. I am sure he would have been much happier living in a different situation. My husband is planning to buy two lemon beagle puppies .

@allknowing it’s how he was raised and instead of seeing it as wrong he thinks it’s the way to do things

What a fun idea to fill the eggs with all sorts of silly things. I bet they were a hit and resulted in a lot of laughs.
Sorry to hear about the dog.

@Marilynda1225 well it was just my daughter held up the egg she found with the key and my mom freaked . I told my daughter it was just an old house key.

@Marilynda1225 the old house key my daughter got my mother thought I had bought my daughter a car for Easter. I said yeah I just bought a car and anyone who happened to find that egg gets the car. My nephew was like yeah not to mention it’s clearly a house key and not a car key.

@Tampa_girl7 thank you. I really never saw the dog as they live out in a kennel and he takes them hunting. I don’t really ever see them as I usually never go with him. They stink and it’s not their fault but I just don’t really go out that way on the property to avoid making them bark.

Sorry about your dog but much easier for him of course, I am glad you have a nice Eater anyway and had al that good food. How old is your baby now and I have forgotten what her name is?

@RasmaSandra I’m glad the dog went fast. Watching them linger over days and having to have them put down is very hard.
The baby is 1 1/2 and so much fun. I don’t think I’ve told on her what her name is. I try to keep things like that private for safety reasons but I’ll tell you here. It’s Ella.
