Health Or Space?

I was looking through the list of celebrities who passed away in 2022/23, and l noticed that cancer seemed to be the main cause of death among the older folk.
Now, many years ago l read in a health magazine that a cure for cancer will be found by the year 2010, it is now 2023....
So what if all that money spent on space exploration over the years was instead used in research to secure a cure for some of the more deadly illnesses affecting us here on earth. Won't that be money better spent ?
Of course lots of people die every year from causes not related to health. There are natural disasters, murders, accidents, freak accidents etc.
The picture posted is of French actor Gaspard Uliel who died last year in a skiing accident. He was only 37.
What it boils down to is that whether we are poor, wealthy, healthy, celebrity or not death can overtake us in any form.

I've had cancer twice... The first time it was surgically removed. The second time it disappeared on its own.
Even with plenty of tax money and donations spent on cancer research, a cure still hasn't been found. Either scientists aren't trying to find a cure or there isn't one.

@Kandae11 Yes, I've read about that vaccine.
There are so many different causes of cancer that each institute chose one or two types of cancer and are looking for ways to combat it. Even going into space will cause new types of cancer to crop up due to the different types of radiation experienced there.

You are a survivor indeed. This is a difficult one to make any headway because of the different kinds l guess. Anyway l still believe it could be got rid of if enough resources are thrown at it. There is a vaccine for young girls , it helps prevent cervical cancer in adulthood.

You are certainly right about that. Well, I agree with you to a point. Cancer is certainly horrible, but we probably need to explore other planets...we have just about kicked the crap out of this one. If the human race is to survive we probably need to colonize other planets.

@Kandae11 I guess we would need a super speedy spacecraft to get there!

That's sad!!
We are in the advance world where we have developed many things which are helpful for us but still we are not able to find out the cure for cancer.
Every year lots of people die due to it as the treatment of the same is very costly here, everyone cannot afford it.
I wish one day we may be able to eradicate it from the earth.

The Creator of this Universe always finds ways to increase the population of the human species, but if the number is too high, that same Creator will find ways to decrease the number some how.... (It is always sad to see young people taken away too early from this world.)

@Kandae11 I thought so too, but somewhere out there, there must be countries where the populations got exploded, since certain natural &/or manmade disasters would happen (somewhere else again) & wipe out hundreds or thousands of peoples. Whatever, it is always sad to hear about deaths.

I remember making this comment here when a user was talking about cancer. All that money spent on going to the moon is surely a waste.

You're so right. I believe in supporting medical research, but no one lives forever on this earth.

This is true. All that money in space could sure be used to solve a lot of problems on earth. Another celebrity, the legendary tina turner passed on. At 83. That actor Gaspard was so young. Don't like to see them go so young. Don't know him but he's a handsome guy and I'm sure he was very. talented

Sad about Tina Turner, but her music will live on. Its also sad to see the young die in these accidents , such a waste..What will happen if and when some nations put up huge space stations or find a livable planet? It won't be long before wars over territory break out.

I agree with Anna. Prevention seems to be the best way to prevent cancer. Even though it still happens way too many times. My Dad survived colon and prostate cancer thank goodness. Some things cannot be prevented. And many scientists are still researching every day for cures.

Yes indeed, prevention is always better, but there are so many ways one can get cancer. It is particularly upsetting when l hear about children with the disease. Lifestyle plays a part in some of the major cancers, but there is also environmental and heriditary.

I don’t recognize the actor. So handsome though. Sad his life ended so early.
Cancer is terrible I wish they had a real cure and not all the chemo and radiation that is so hard on one’s body. I agree with you the money spent on space exploration could be put to much better use.
