Yesterday's art class was the first week of acrylics. We were doing a mother and baby elephant.
I was getting ready to go in my bedroom and when I came out I thought, I wonder how long he will be (the taxi driver). Then I looked out of the kitchen window - and there he was! The mini-bus taxi was on the drive! I looked at my watch. It was 1:15pm! He was due at 1:30pm! I was at the Village Hall by half past! One of tue tutors saw me and said, You're taxi must have been early today. I said yeah, he came at quarter past! Then I went to the toilet (because I hadn't had chance to go again before I came out) and when I came out I said to the lady actually it could have been earlier because I came out of my bedroom and there he was!
I got myself a cup of (green) tea and a biscuit and went and sat down. When Paul came he decided to sit at one side. Later he changed to sit by me because he said then he would be able to see what I was doing, and I said, you mean you want to spy on me! And he said yes! Later he changed his mind again and went and sat opposite me because he said he needed more space.
First of all the lady did a demonstration about the different ways of using acrylics and we tried them out in our sketch book. Then she demonstrated how to do the elephants. She didn't actually tell us how to draw the elephants, but how to paint them when they were drawn. Then we started.
I found this much easier than previous drawings, even there there was still a bit of rubbing out! When the elephants were drawn, I drew a frame around the picture instead of putting masking tape on, because I always rip the paper when I take it off again.
I started painting the background first with yellow ochre, then added white as it went down. Then I added bushes at the back and grass in the front made with a green made with yellow ochre, a bit of blue and some white.
Then I started on the elephants. I did the darkest parts first, gradually getting lighter. I added the eyes last.
I really like this painting. I think it's the best of done yet. I hope you like it.
Have a nice day everyone.

This has actually come out really well and you should be proud of yourself . I have not seen all your art so far and can't draw a comparison.
It's Friday afternoon here. The weekend mood has set in. I am having a good day so far.

@JudyEv Yes, indeed. And next year, at the same time as this year, I'll be doing it again with my friend.

@sharonelton I enjoyed yesterday’s art class. It’s nice that they have a toilet for those whose taxi arrives too early.

I suppose it's better than being late or not coming at all!

Well done. I like the dark values that you've added to the Mama Elephant as these made the Baby Elephant stand out. Have you tried using painter's tape instead of masking tape for your paper? I would also sometimes use washi tape when painter's tape isn't available.

Thank you very much, I'm glad you like it. Oh, I'm glad you think that.
I'd never heard of painters tape. We usually use the masking tape that is provided. Does painters tape not stick as fast as the masking tape?
