Amtrak train travel a memory

We took this train from San Jose (California) and our destination was Oxnard where my nephew stays. But the train did not go further than Santa Barbara and we had to take a bus to Oxnard. I had to send a message to my nephew to pick us up at the bus stop and he did. It was a memorable journey and I had this dream of taking this route as I was told it ran parallel to the sea and it was. It was a sight to see the sea right through our journey. It was a double decker train and that again is not something that one gets to experience often. The food in the canteen and the service was par excellence something we do not see here in India When was the last time you travelled by train? Image credit:
Pacific Surfliner train 572 rolls through the Batiquitos Lagoon behind Charger locomotive number 2111. This area is slated for a new double track project to begin next year.

My last train ride was probably in 2005 when I had to commute to work and tender my resignation. I relied on the subway and the path rains while I was in NYC and New Jersey but I don't recall having tried something as awesome as your Amtrak experience. We might have to take the train when we get to Taipei next week. Looking forward to that.

The last time I traveled by train, I was ten years old, and taking a train up Pike's Peak, a mountain in Colorado. It was quite a trip. My best friend is set to travel by train from here in Oklahoma, to San Francisco, and she is very excited about it.

There is no train in our place anymore that travels long distances. We do have the short distance transit trains that ply around the nearby cities in the metropolis. When I was young, we used to have this long-distance travel and it took us almost 12 hours to travel from our place to the capital city. But when buses were introduced and the roads were developed the travel time with buses became faster than the train so people stop using the train which caused its demise.

@allknowing We have trains for short distances here in the capital city. But the trains became less popular when buses were introduced and became faster than them. So they ceased operations since they are slower.

@rsa101 As per my knowledge I think trains run faster specially now. And we have restrictions when it comes to maximum speed of buses

I have never heard of a country that does not have trains short or long distance. Here in India every State is connected.

Train travel has been a part of my life while at work and also going to my native place. I have also taken trains to go on short holidays within India as well.

@allknowing Yes, I know Indians take trains a lot. People in the US drive our vehicles instead of taking trains places.

I traveled from Rourkela to Kolkata in the month of May this year and will be going back by train to Rourkela in the month of September. Train maintainance in India is going from bad to worse. Even the first class curtains are torn.

It was a long time that I travelled by train in India. These days Modi is inaugurating all those long distance trains.
