Sleeping Through a Dental Procedure

This morning, I went to the dentist to get a cavity filled, and I slept through the entire procedure. What a great nap! Twenty years ago, I slept through a root canal, and I wasn’t even on laughing gas. I had asked the dentist if he minded if I went to sleep, and he laughed, saying he’d never had a patient sleep through a root canal. Well, I did! That time I had been up for two days straight, but I still think that was unusual.
Have you guys ever slept through a dental procedure? I noticed in certain countries they don’t always inject you to make your mouth numb, so who could blame a person for not sleeping through that kind of agony!

I could only sleep through one if they gave me stuff to make me sleep! Plus I wouldn't go unless they promised to do that lol! That's good you could sleep through it though

You would like my dentist, and I know she’d give you the gas if you needed it. If she keeps you waiting 30 minutes or more (she rarely does), she gives you gift cards (I’ve gotten Olive Garden, Starbucks, and Sonic). Today, she was giving out high quality phone accessories for free. I don’t buy those, but if it’s free, I’m taking it.

@MommyOfEli2013 Yeah, you would probably have to fight the insurance to pay for you being knocked out, unfortunately. They don’t like to pay for more than the bare minimum.
If only doctors always gave away free things. Besides lollipops, toothpaste, and floss, that is.

@AmbiePam I don't think gas would be enough for me, I would want to be fully sedated. I know that they need to take all my teeth, and not sure if being knocked out is covered by my insurance lol. But that is nice of your dentist to do that, to give those things if you are waiting longer than 30 minutes. And if it was free, I'd take it too lol!

Going to the dentist gives me too much anxiety to sleep. I’m not sure why. I have never had any problems.

@Tampa_girl7 Oh! If you ever do, just tell them to start off real low. I had it once, and at first it was so low it had no effect. Whereas, a low amount on you might be successful.

@AmbiePam I’m not sure if I want to use it. My mama had a bad experience with it.

I have fallen asleep during dental procedures. Back when I was a young mom who was running a daycare and it felt like my moment just to relax.;

Oh, yes, as long as they give me enough pain meds before they start. I've slept through one extraction and one filling. The dentist told me he'd never had to wake anyone up after a procedure before. (When the tooth was pulled, the dentist woke me up and I asked when they were going to start the procedure. Then was shocked when I was told it was already done. )

Never! I hate the dentist. The chair is comfortable enough but I can't sleep with someone's hands in my mouth. You have a super power.

Nope I've never slept through any type of dental procedure. Mostly because my dentist is a chatterbox and he never lacks conversation. However, it's kind of hard to respond with his hands in my mouth.
