A beach trip before Idalia

Dale and I had a day trip to Nags Head on the NC coast today. It was hot (90s), but a little cloud cover and a nice breeze.
We only stayed about an hour which was enough sand and sun for us.
There were a few crazy surfers considering the rip tides.
We drove about an hour to our favorite seafood place, Frog Island where the fried catfish, hushpuppies, fries, and fried okra were yummy as usual.
Stopped at a few thrift stores looking for a wheele chair I'll need for a few weeks after my foot surgery, but haven't found one yet.
The surgeon told us yesterday the two procedures she'll do and we're waiting for that to be scheduled. Bad news is I won't be able to put any weight on that foot for six weeks, then limited use for six more weeks. The weird thing is part of the bone in the injured toe has died. I didn't know that was even possible!
Poor Dale. He'll be doing more this time than he even did during cancer treatments. But he always takes good care of me.
So that's one reason we went to the beach today. Trying to do fun things while we can. Used my cane, but I did pretty good everything considered.
Storm/hurricane Idalia just started raining as we got home.
Hope all you myLoters are safe if you're in her path.

I hope you can find a good wheelchair for a reasonable price and you heal from the surgery quickly.

Thanks. I really dread not being able to put any weight on that foot for six weeks.

@1creekgirl You're welcome.
The only times I've been hurt enough that I couldn't walk, I was confined to bed. I don't know what you'll be going through but I know you'll manage.

@DaddyEvil I'm blessed to have a great husband, but it will be hard for him, too.

I wouldn't recommend getting a wheelchair from a thrift store. You may not need it long, but you also don't want to fall apart on you. You're better off going to Walmart-mart. Amazon also has some, too.

@1creekgirl Another long recovery for you Vicki but you’ll get there. “All things work together …” but you know that.

I'm really hanging on to that verse, Fiacre. I just dread being so limited for so long.

That sounds like a fun trip. I'm glad you were able to take it before Idalia hit. I hope you can find a wheelchair. I have two. One I bought new; and one was through Craigslist. When is your surgery again? How are you feeling these days? Better I hope. Have a wonderful day.

I'm waiting for the doctor to call with the date. Any advice on what to look for in a wheelchair?

@LindaOHio Thanks, Linda. I think we'll buy a relatively inexpensive one on Amazon.

@1creekgirl You won't have to worry about it being wide enough. I had to get a wider seat for my big behind. Make sure you get the footrests and that they work easily. Some get jammed and never work properly. They should be easy to take on and off. Other than that, just make sure the fabric is sturdy and not worn through. Good luck.

I am jealous. I have been trying to get baco OBX for years, and am not even that far away. While it is still nice I am gonna take the Knott's Island ferry. Which I think goes to the Currituck lighthouse.

We were right across from the Bodie Island lighthouse. I haven't been to the Currituck lighthouse. Have you gotten much of the storm?

It might be good later, but I have to be completely off that foot for six weeks.

@1creekgirl it was the areas right by the coast and along the beaches that got the worst and a lot of flooding,

We asked her about removing the toe if needed and she said she would remove the ball of the toe. Not sure what all that would entail, but hope I don't have to.

That was good, to get out and do things while you can.
Often around here, if you or your spouse is a veteran(and sometimes they don't ask that) the veteran's organizations have wheelchairs for loaners, like an American Legion or a VFW place. I hope you find one.

If that doesn't pan out, ask at your pharmacy. They often know where a person can get crutches, etc. I had to be in a wheelchair for months once, and my pharmacist at the time directed me to the American Legion, but he said if that didn't pan out, he had other resources. But the Legion had one to loan me, so I was good.
