If your husband or wife asks you to give up on your pet what would you do?

I received this question recently. I didn't know what to answer. A man who doesn't love animals asked me this. After thinking for a while I told him that whoever loves me should accept me with my pets. I can't give up on my pets because I had them for years. They are like my children. What would you do if your wife or husband would ask you to give up on your pets?

I would not have married a man like that to begin with. It would have meant that he doesn´t know me at all.

@MarieCoyle The only one good reason would be that I have (or he has) a sudden terrible allergy to the pet. Then I´d get him a good house and cry for it for a long time.

I think I would buy allergy meds for the person. I am pretty allergic to cats. Some of my friends have cats, I love them and I love my friends. It's hard for me to be around the kitties, but that's OK. No one is making me, I will survive.

I would show the guy the door. There aren't many good reasons to get rid of a pet. I would keep the pet over the partner.

It depends... WHY would my wife want me to get rid of my furbabies? If she was newly allergic to them, then I'd re-home them. If she couldn't give me a good reason, then I'd tell her to find a new place to live.

In other words, it is what I said. I did not think of a newly acquired ailment. That would be an only reason.

@marguicha It is the only GOOD reason I could think of at the time.

@DaddyEvil I recieved Tomás´ pet Misty when he was dying. Claudia and her husband thought that Misty could have some extra bugs and he had no defences. I opened my heart to her and we later on grieved Tomás together

Unless my pet made him break out suddenly in a deadly allergy, I’m keeping my pet. The pet might even have come first, and if he can’t tolerate the poor animal, he can hit the road. It shouldn’t be a big deal unless there is a deadly allergy involved.

My husband would never do such a nasty thing. He knows me too well. They are fur persons to us not pets. I generally find that even my friendships are deeper when the friend understands the love of animals.

That is very good how you answered that question. I have a cat and will not give her up for anyone and so I do not want roommates or remarry. There are people that do not understand animals at all even if they have them and like you I feel the same way about my cat. I could not have human children so had animals instead and I love animals. There are people here that have cats and people here that have dogs and some have both a dog and cat or more and there are others that know nothing about animals so they ask those kinds of questions or why would you have an animal or make a face because I have a cat. My cat is very important to me and we are a package deal when I move she moves along with me or I go back for her if she is not ready when the movers are ready to go. There have been people in the crew that have helped me get her in her cage to travel and to this day I do not know what they did but I am glad someone can get her in her cage because I have a very hard time doing it. I can understand how you feel about your animals.

It's nice to know that my partner likes dogs as well. So I don't think I'd have an issue with that.

I don't have a husband (yet) but if he asked me to give up on my pet I'd tell him to go and do a running jump!

I think even if allergic, Bob would never ask this. He loves animals more than I do. Neither would I ask him to give up our pets. Now if the pets pass, as Princess did, we would discuss being pet free.

I would certainly never give up my fur babies and if anyone is already married I would think they would have started life living together with these fur babies,

Can't be a correct answer to this. It will depend on the situations and also the different people involved there. Everyone will have a different opinion and they are free to follow their heart.

You should listen to your heart and it should be your decision
