Lasagna, Spaghetti, Chicken Alfredo, Gnocchi, Braciole, Biscotti, Deviled Eggs (believed to have been invented in ancient Rome!), Pasta e Fagioli, Pizza, Tiramisu, Gelato, Prosciutto, Polenta, Risotto, Ravioli, Tortellini, Macaroons, Torrone, Pizzelle and more.
Do you like Italian food? What are your favorites? What is your favorite Italian restaurant or do you make all these goodies at home? If you cook/bake Italian, what is your specialty?
I am a first generation American; and my parents came from Italy. I have my own pizzelle iron and used to make spaghetti, lasagna, pasta e fagioli, deviled eggs, chicken Alfredo and more at home. Olive Garden is OK. It's a chain Italian restaurant in our area. We also have Zappitelli's...they make a mean gnocchi. Just like my mother used to make. How about you?

@lindaohio What’s not to like? All those dishes are excellent - if properly prepared. It all goes wrong when people rush things and try to cut corners.

You're right. Sauce must be simmered slowly for example.

@Beestring I am Italian, the Italian food that you eat outside Italy is always a "local version".

I used to love Olive Garden, but they quit making Seafood Portofino, which was my favorite dish ever. The best Italian restaurant I ever went to was called Alfredo’s, and he even made his own pasta, which you wouldn’t expect for an affordable Italian restaurant. Oh man, was that place good.

I'm sorry to hear that, my husband is also. Have you found better ways to cook and be gluten free?

I love Italian ..... ok, to rephrase, I love what I am familiar with that is considered Italian like lasagna or spaghetti. As for pizza, if I'm not mistaken Italian pizza was very different from the American variety. My siblings inlaws are from an old Italian family whose great grandmother made traditional Italian pizza, I was surprised when I found out how it's made.

If I remember correctly the way the great grandmother would make it is with a pizza like crust then put olive oil, basil and cheese on it. I'm not exactly sure about the cheese though but it was a simple recipe
I'll bet @ladyduck would know what that ancient recipe is.
The great grandmother passed away in the late 1970s at the age of 95.

@rebelann Pizza is from south of Italy. I am a northern and not an expert, but I learned to make good pizza from someone from Napoli. You prepare the dough, it has to rest many hours, better if overnight. Then you enlarge the dough with your hands (no rolling pin), you top with a little tomato sauce (NOT TONS and NOT paste), on the sauce you add sliced mozzarella cheese (again NOT a lot) and basil leaves if you want a pizza Margherita, or oregano if you want a Neapolitan pizza.

As I am Italian YES, I like real Italian food. I make my own Italian food. For my niece my tortellini are to die for, for another friend it is my vitello tonnato, I make also lasagne and those are among my favorite thing, with Risotto alla Milanese and Cotoletta alla Milanese (breaded veal). I think it shows I am a "Milanse" (from Milano).

Italian food is always good! Before the pandemic there was a restaurant in Springfield that we went to every few months but it closed and never reopened. I make spaghetti and lasagna at home using store bought items to make them.

I would say Italian food is my absolute favorite. We eat it at least two times a week and I love lasagna. I don't eat Italian food out very often and generally cook it all myself.

I like some italian food, but definitely not all. Favorite of course - Chicken Alfredo. Didn't know deviled eggs were italian, but that's one of my favorite ways to eat an egg (and I don't enjoy them many ways)

Pastas of various kinds and Pizzas are what I am familiar with.
Pizza is among one of my favorites but due to health reasons, I have them once in 2/3 months only.
I have tried Biscotti a few times.
Macaroons - I have seen but not tried as they are costly so I need o plan out.
I think I had Risotto a long time back but do not exactly remember the taste.
With others, I seem to have heard names but not tried these out.
Quite an interesting share.

I have not tried all of them. But yes pizza, pasta, lasagna and ravioli are yummy if cooked well. What we get here might be adjusted to Indian taste. My daughters make them from scratch.
