Getting access to our gated community

We live in a gated community and at least one member in each household must be over 55 so as you can imagine there are a lot of older people here. And it’s to be expected that there will be a few medical emergencies happening from time to time. When we got back from house-sitting, there was a community barbecue opposite our house so we joined them for a very short while. One of the ladies there, who was very fit, has suddenly had bad attacks of dizziness and had to be taken off in an ambulance about a week before. Our neighbour was taken off in an ambulance last week too and another gentleman has a growth on his spine and also had to be hospitalised. There is a code to get in the gate after 6pm but we’ve been told that all emergency services have their own special code so they don’t have to rely on stressed people trying to tell them how to access the area. I was pleased to hear that as half the time I can’t remember the code but we have a remote that we can push to let us in.

I hope everybody comes back from the hospital in good condition. I wouldn't want to try to remember codes to a gated community... In an emergency, I might forget.

Most of us here have trouble remembering codes and passwords so it's good to know this is one we don't need to worry about.

@DaddyEvil Passwords and codes become a nightmare especially as you get older.

I think it's a marvellous idea. Having an ambulance come would be stressful enough without worrying about how they're going to get to you.

That is smart to allow the emergency workers their own code to be able to get in to help those in need. Hope your neighbors will recover.

Sounds to be a very good security system you have in your place. I think in here there are still security guards that they use for exclusive villages. Individual residents just use remote-controlled gates and CCTVs to protect them from any potential threats that may infiltrate their exclusive subdivisions.

@JudyEv Same here exclusive subdivisions are usually gated and fenced. Except that there are no automated gates just plain guards to check who goes in and out.

You do feel more secure but of course if people really want to, they'll find a way to get in.

@Ronrybs No everyone does FB but there are a number of groups (bridge, handicraft, darts, table tennis, blah, blah) and most info gets bandied around. There is also a noticeboard. But I take your point.

Oh gee, that is alot of people having emergencies. The majority of people that live in this development are older too. Ocassionally you will see an ambulance. I also know of at least 2 people who lived here who passed away, and they both were kind of well known in the community. One was helping to run a community meeting one time, and had some kind of position...and I saw him with his grandson doing a community clean up once. The other one lived on this street, and loved to have parties, that were a bit on the loud side.

Everyone here would know at least a few others and we all tend to look out for each other. We've had a couple of deaths too and a few have moved into nursing homes.

Code systems need to have a backup. Do you have security guards who assist folks in case of Access issues?

@JudyEv We had the same system in all apartment buildings in Monte Carlo. The entry doors were always locked (day and night), but the postmen, police, firefighters and ambulances had a special code to get inside.
