Not happy with our Uber experience

A few nights ago, we ordered an Uber to take 5 adults. What arrived was a Mitsubishi Outlander. This wasn’t nearly big enough for 5 people, all in their late 70s. Vince managed to squeeze into the back compartment but had to sit sideways. In the next section, my brother-in-law’s knees were up against the driver’s seat and his face much too close for comfort to the driver’s head-rest. My friend who has had a knee replacement had trouble getting into the back seat. Her husband in the front seat was probably the only one who was comfortable although I was okay in the centre of the middle seat. The driver didn’t get out to help put up the very rear seat and talked, albeit quietly, on a hands-free phone all the way there. We phoned for an Uber to come home and got the same model vehicle so had all the same problems. I think maybe next time we’ll designate a skipper. I borrowed the photo from an advertisement.

That was a terrible experience. Six people inside a Mitsubishi Outlander? The police would have stopped the car here, no more than 5 people are allowed on that car.

@LadyDuck Yes, that's what it means so they had a bit of a cheek accepting the assignment.

@capirani The drivers really shouldn't have taken on the fare.

I am sorry you had a poor experience. I always chose an Uber XL, because of my wheelchair. I only had one incident where a driver couldn't take me and my chair. However, that was on them. They signed up as an Uber XL (meant to comfortably fit six people) which meant he should've been able to make room for my chair. He admitted it being his first day, and he didn't know. But while I kind of understood, when you agree to be a driver, you should have the common sense to know you might be asked to transport groceries luggage, wheelchairs or what have you.

@JudyEv Facebook...start a post, and soon it will be viral, and once viral, it will reach Uber one way or the other.

@JudyEv They have a help section where you can complain directly to the company.

I have an idea we asked for an Uber XL but this definitely didn't fit with our idea of a vehicle to take six adults (5 plus the driver). And there doesn't seem to be anywhere where you can complain or explain.

That was a disappointing experience. Perhaps you could file a complaint so that management can hear your concerns and possibly improve their services to customers?

@JudyEv Oh, I see. Uber had excellent customer service when they were still in operation, and each rider had the opportunity to provide feedback. If the service was subpar, they would even be willing to give us a refund. Regulators from the government penalized them for noncompliance, so sadly, their service was short lived. Following a buyout by their rival riding app, they were forced to close.

@rsa101 That's a shame a good service wasn't allowed to continue.

We'd like to do that but there is no way to contact them. Their website doesn't allow any sort of communication other than ordering a car.

It sounds like you would have been better off if you'd followed that uber ..... also, I would not have given him a tip

We didn't tip him. Tipping isn't too common here but what with his behaviour tipping wasn't going to happen.

In the US there are a few cities that have law suits pending against tUber, I won't use them especially after what you just told us.

@rebelann They've been fine every other time. It was really just the size of the vehicle.

Uber services had turned bad in India too. Now they keep canceling the booking and the driver calls for extra bucks.

I haven't heard of that happening here but the vehicles we had certainly weren't made for a total of six adults.

That must be an uncomfortable ride. Sorry about this horrible experience. They should have sent a big spacious car as requested. And driver talking over phone sounds very unprofessional and even risky. I hope that you can complaint or give a genuine feedback to them in some way

It's very hard to contact anyone to complain or explain. You can't knock back the driver and vehicle because you've already paid so you're a bit stuck. We'll be more careful next time.

Normally they're fine but we asked for a bigger car (and paid extra) and didn't expect to have to squash in like we did.

We'll either drive next time and the driver (skipper) will commit to not drinking or we'll get a proper taxi rather than an Uber.

A 'skipper' is the person who agrees to drive but not drink. We might drive ourselves next time. I'm not fussed if I don't have a drink so I could easily drive but then you have the problem of parking.

@judyev How uncomfortable on several levels. A taxi driver I had in Paris recently broke up with his girlfriend on the phone as he drove us from the airport to Gare du Nord. Actually I think it was the girlfriend who dumped him. We didn’t really need to hear all that, but as tourists he probably thought we didn’t understand. Even a non French speaker would have understood!

I think the order goes out into the ether and a driver says 'yes, he'll go'. There is no way to take to anyone before or after. It's not very satisfactory really.
