Winter Wonderland!

We were not forecasted to get much snow at all, but it's close to 6 inches. It's winding down to the end of it now, and moving on towards Indiana and Ohio (watch out, Eva and Linda!). It will be on the ground for a few days, as our temperatures have dived and tomorrow will be very cold.
It's insane the number of accidents my area has had today from this snowfall. You would think this isn't crazy Illinois with crazy weather, I mean, we DO get snow and ice. But no, they get out there and slam that foot on the accelerator and hit the ditch, or another vehicle or two, and then get mad. If they would just slow down...where snow and ice is concerned, slow and steady wins the race. But, they won't. They would rather play crash-up derby and risk other people's lives instead.
This may well be winter's last hurrah for snow here, the way it's been this year. We definitely have had our share of ice, but spring is coming so this may be it.

Yes, ours will get a good start on melting Sunday as well. But definitely not tomorrow.

@MarieCoyle I am not too sure what we are expecting tomorrow for weather, I had to run an errand while the news was on tonight and I missed it.
I made a nice beef stew today. It was just cold enough, and will hopefully be about the last time we need a hot meal like that this season. Fingers crossed.

I made a really good beef barley soup yesterday, so tonight, it's my dinner. I was thinking about beef stew the other day, I haven't had that in a long time. Hopefully, I will get some made soon.
It's early to think about it being warm out quite yet, but maybe you will get lucky, Julia.

@MarieCoyle Here either. It was the worst summer in my memory. Besides the forest fire smoke from Canada, we had very little rain. We're still in a drought since last winter and summer. We need a good snowstorm. Even the meteorologists are saying the farmers will suffer from the lack of snow.

It was truly terrifying. My son’s house was shrouded in a thick smoke. The had to turn off their AC as it drew the smoke into the house. The entire area was paralyzed. We do not need a repeat of this here. Bring on the snow and rain!

I think you got all of ours...We don't have a lick. I am rather jealous..but not real sure I would want 6 inches at this point. Be careful out there.

The weather guy said we got 7 inches. But it will melt tomorrow, or start to. And I do want it to melt, because I don't like looking at dirty snow.

Yes, we had that same whiteout off and on all Friday morning. Tell her to stay inside! But I'm sure you did.

@MarieCoyle We still have to see a serious winter here this year, but February is not over yet.

Well, I have seen snow here on Easter. One year we had an odd little snow on May 8th, which is way, way late.

I have never known an Illinois winter to be over at the beginning of February. No, it's not over, but it will not be long now.

Wow, what a gorgeous photo! That's a lot of snow! I did see on the news about all the car accidents and pileups as a result of that weather. We get the same issues here in Florida, but with rain. People think they can just continue driving the same haphazardly way even when it's coming down like cats and dogs.

@MarieCoyle I wish I could have come up there to build a snowman. That would have been fun!
And just remember one important detail about those crappy Florida drivers…they’re not natives to our state, but are bad drivers from all the other states who have retired here! lOL

Anytime we have a snow, you're welcome to come up and make your snowman!
Yes, you do get a lot of bad drivers from other places. I'm sure it's very frustrating!

You should have come up, and built a snowman!
Yes, I am not impressed with Florida drivers in general. I know around Tampa/St.Pete, it can get downright scary!

@MarieCoyle Funny you should say that. The worst drivers I have encountered in my life were when I was doing a post-doc in Southern Indiana.

@TheHorse My youngest daughter claims that the worst drivers in the US all live in Florida. I guess it's all a matter of perspective, and where you are.

It was a truly lovely snow, with huge lacy flakes. I don't like being cold, either. But I was inside, and enjoyed it mostly from the big window in the living room. Even my son said it was really pretty, and he hates snow.

Some people drive crazy no matter what the weather is. They do not seem to care about their own safety, and the safety of others, either.

When a person has a commute to work or school, or wherever, and the roads are so bad, I will never understand why they do not allow some extra time to get to their destination.

Boy, I thought not knowing how to drive in "weather" was a Southern CA thing . Just this morning I saw two really bad accidents locally that looked like a result of speed . . . it's raining here but it's not even heavy like we had the other week . . . sad there was a fatality from one of them. I can't even imagine snow and ice. If these crazy drivers are not going to be more careful, well that means WE have to be extra careful of the crazy drivers unfortunately.

When we are taught to drive defensively, we need to really practice that. We do have to constantly watch and try to predict what someone else is doing, or is going to do.

I got smacked back in November by a lady who just didn't look, and then she went in MY lane, and hit my car. I tried to get away from her but it just wasn't possible. Oh, we do live and learn all the time, don't we?

People are stupid, and are under preasure to perform in this fast-paced world. We as humans never stop to think about what could be.

Honestly, I don’t know why I am surprised every time this happens. The roads get slick and people just will NOT slow down. Your are so right, they never stop to think about consequences at all.

My sister and I loved snow. My oldest daughter is like me, she loves the different seasons. Fall is our very favorite and we make the most of it, but we love a good snow, and are fond of Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Maybe some of us get snow because it makes us slow down with our life? Maybe those of us that enjoy the snow just look forward to the tranquility it seems to bring with it? I don't know why I like snow, but it does seem a lot of people here really hate it.

I have a deep history in South Carolina. Some of my maternal grandparents came to the US via Charleston. I am related to Pinkney's, Tradds, Rutledges, and my grandmothers' grandfather built Middleton Place. Her mother was a Middleton. I love to go there and think about it all when I go to Charleston. Haven't been there since before the pandemic. I love history.

Well, too much rain is dangerous, too much heat/sunshine is deadly, too. Not to mention too much wind is bad, it destroys things and kills. Any kind of weather can be deadly if you get too much of it. But I understand. I do enjoy a beautiful snow.

I do not blame you being upset about drivers who get into accidents driving their autos on an icy road and getting into wrecks that could have been avoided.

I hate it when fools put others in danger, it’s not smart to try to speed on icy roads.
