Another Update on Dad

So, the word on the street is that he will have a triple bypass surgery. That will be on Tuesday. He will be in Cape Girardeau on Monday night the day before at the Auburn Suites hotel. I will head there on Monday night and spend some time with him and book a room through Wednesday night. That way I can spend some time with him before the surgery and be there when he wakes up. The surgery is supposed to take about 4 or 5 hours. My sister is going to meet me there too as well on Tuesday. It's a little bit more money than I want to spend, but my Dad is worth it of course. I will post about how things go.

It will mean a lot to him for sure. I wish my sister would come the night before to visit with him BEFORE the surgery, but she will be coming to see him AFTER the surgery.

@MarieCoyle I just feel like she's going to have a hard time dealing with it if something happens in surgery and she didn't see him before it. But of course, it's her choice.

@porwest Yes, I am sure it would mean a lot to your Dad if she came before and he knew she was there, and you could offer your support together. It won't be an easy time for anyone, and a long recovery ahead for your Dad. But I know that you know that.

@1creekgirl None so far. I guess we will have dinner Monday night. I would thought he would have had to fast longer before the surgery. But he says they told him midnight and he goes in at 530am for the surgery. I hope he didn't get that wrong.

@porwest Many years ago, my Dad had a quadruple bypass and did well. He is still alive today at age 86.

Thank you very much. I am sure he will be fine, but you tend to worry when it is something major like this. Stopping his heart. Separating his ribcage. Yeesh.

Your father would be happy to have you with him before surgery. I imagine it is expensive, but you are right, your father is worth it. Lovely photo.

@porwest - I am sure it was a weird and bittersweet moment, but what it's important now is that he is fine and you can see him when you like.

It was a valuable moment, but I remember it being such a weird feeling being with him, essentially saying our goodbyes the night before the surgery. I was still a bit angry my sister couldn't make the time for something I felt was EXTREMELY important, but some people count their priorities differently. Either way, of course, he made it through, and those goodbyes turned into a new beginning.

I could not have, in a million years, imagined NOT going to see him on what could have been, his last night on Earth.

Thank you. Yeah, I am a little disappointed that my sister is going to wait until Tuesday after the surgery to visit with him. But it is what it is. I am sure he will pull through, but with open heart surgery you just never know.

My only regret is that my sister won't see him until after the surgery. Anything can happen, so I hope it's not too late. But it will mean a lot to him, I am sure, to see us when he can after the surgery is done.

Fingers crossed. I am hoping we get to have at least another ten good years and that this surgery helps improve his quality of life, which right now is not so good.
