Did you ever wonder how "piggy bank"start its popularity? In the past, western people in Europe save their money using "pygg"clay jars, which is enunciated as "pug." As the years go by, people in the UK started to pronounce it as "pig." Then, pottery makers started to shaped their crafts as pigs, which they think it was a fun idea. I used piggy banks until around 4 years ago. I had a collection of them on a table in my living room until burglars entered my house and took them all with the coins inside.

@Shavkat The city where I live is now very dangerous. Most of the things the burglars stole from my house had more emotional value than real value.

@marguicha That's a bit alarming. I hope the local government is doing something about it.

That's not a good thing. These thieves should be punished. I am still planning if I want to have one or two this year.

It is my pleasure to share such a fact. During my childhood years, I also used the traditional bamboo trunks to save my loose coins.

@cttolledo You are lucky, my friend. Your parents are still alive to say this. I also bear in mind this matter when my parents used to say it.

You said it right. There are some countries that have their own beliefs about having piggy banks as their possessions.

At present, there are so many other-shaped clay banks. I still prefer the porky one.

I used to use one made from LEGO bricks, not the set, but a custom design from an AFOL in Germany. It held quite a lot of coins, which we banked when we moved town. Have not used one since.

I was thinking of bringing back the old days. I usually have a piggy bank or banks starting in the first month of the year and break them up before the end of the year.
