3/1/24 - Update on My Husband

I am feeling cautiously optimistic.
Hubby was very lucid yesterday, chatty and more like himself. He still thinks there is a movie out on his life; and he has trouble remembering details about our house. I am hoping he will gradually come out of that. I am thinking more and more that this was hospital delirium and not totally dementia. I'm not saying that he does NOT have dementia in some capacity because of the incidents that happened 3 or 4 months ago; but all the acting out, getting restrained, getting out of bed, not eating, has stopped.
He ate a good portion of his entree yesterday; and he said that he fed himself for breakfast. That's excellent. He is still having trouble grasping and holding things with his left hand. That will need to be addressed. Rehab's diagnosis of dementia and having to put him in long-term care seems to be incorrect.
The big obstacles to his coming home will be getting him through the surgery and then rehab.
Your continued support is so appreciated!

I think our visits help too by giving him familiar faces.

@Marilynda1225 Two weeks ago you wouldn't have recognized him. He has gotten over that "hospital delirium" for the most part.

It’s bad when patients are misdiagnosed. Things seem to be improving, so that’s a positive thing. Hope it only gets better from here.

I am glad to hear that things are improving and I hope the surgery will go well. I was just thinking that if his left had has problems somewhere along the line he might have had a stroke. Many blessings to you both and I keep praying,

Turns out he's having problems with both hands. I need to ask someone about that.

I am sure it really does your heart good to see improvements! Hopefully, he will continue to improve. I am sure it really helps that he gets to see you and his sister every day, and that's no doubt a lot of the reason of his improvement. It's amazing what seeing loved ones can do for a person. It sounds like he is in a good facility with good care, which can mean so much.
