3/3/24 - Update on My Husband

Yesterday they transferred my husband to Cleveland Clinic's Main Campus. What a zoo it is down there. When my SIL saw the parking situation, she just went over to Valet Parking; and I paid the fee. Hubby's surgery will be TODAY! I never expected it to be so soon.
The whole time we were there, they were drawing blood and getting him ready for surgery. Various doctors stopped in and had me sign releases. I spoke with his surgeon; and he assured me that my husband was checked and double-checked that he is ready for surgery and if his blood pressure drops again, they are prepared to take action. I don't know what time surgery will be; so we will go in the morning.
The only thing I notice about my husband is that he has a great deal of trouble with his hands. Has trouble feeding himself, etc. They took him off the pureed diet; and he is now eating mostly regular food. He cannot, of course, stand and walk on his own.
If ever there was a time that my husband needed your prayers and thoughts, it's today. Thank you for your support.

@LadyDuck They took him in around 2:30 pm. We left the hospital around 9 pm; and he was still on a ventilator, in AFIB, his blood pressure was all over the place, he was sedated and he had yet to regain consciousness.

That is very quick, sending good thoughts that it will all go well.

I hope it goes well and there are no complications or heart issues. I am sure it will be a nerve-wracking day for you and the sister in law. You have my prayers.

I will say a prayer. I know what you mean about the traffic. UVA which is a teaching hospital and university in Charlottesville has terrible traffic in the area. Plus to top it all off they are doing construction. There are students changing classes, people going back and forth to the hospital etc. Lots of cars. One of the main parking areas is closed due to construction. I have driven all over the place in that ridiculous traffic looking for a building that was re named. It is a real PIA. I think after your sister leaves, maybe use Uber to drop you right in front of his building.

@LindaOHio Linda, check to see if hospital volunteers can help out. That is what they are there for. Try to arrange something directly with the coordinator. If you could get Uber to drop you off and pick you up, they could help with a wheelchair in the hospital I am sure, and have a volunteer push your around. I take it you don't have friends or neighbors that would help?

I'm hoping by the time my SIL leaves that he will be in rehab. There's no way I can go by myself. I need someone to push the wheelchair; and I would never attempt driving in that traffic. I have become a big wimp when it comes to driving.

@snowy22315 Ken's 2nd cousin (our housekeeper) would take me; but she has kids and other responsibilities. She can take me about once a week.

What type of surgery are they performing on your husband? I know you said he has a problem using his hands. What are they attempting to do?

@porwest In physical therapy, they are getting him to sit on the side of the bed but with support. He can't support himself yet. Very weak from being in bed for over a month.

So much to worry about. Let’s get his hip replaced, then we can see if the hand problem is arthritis or something like it.
Praying, sweetie.

Hip surgery went well; but hubby is in the ICU. Has a breathing tube, AFIB, his blood pressure is all over the place, he's sedated and hasn't been conscious yet. Thank you for your prayers and support.
