Time has been dragging

I haven’t posted for a couple of days. The time had been dragging over the last few days until we met with Vince’s heart surgeon last night. Until then, we weren’t sure what was going to happen but now he will have open heart surgery on 14th May so in just two months. At least we now know what is going to happen.
He has a few more tests and scans to have before then. The doctor was a very nice guy and explained what was happening with Vince’s heart. He’s saying perhaps two days in ICU, about a week in hospital all up and 6-8 weeks recovery at home. No driving in that time and he is to sleep on his back. We might hire a hospital bed for that period as he gets terrible backache if he has to sleep on his back. Not to mention that he snores and wakes himself up, not to mention keeping me awake.
So we now wait another two months but at least we have something definite now.
The photo has nothing to do with the discussion.

Ugh, open heart surgery is a lot to handle, but I'm glad you finally have a plan. Sounds like the doctor is great and recovery is achievable. Thinking of you both during this time!

@judyev I do wish Vince well and a trouble free recovery. I know so many people who have had open heart surgery, which sounds gruesome, and have recovered very quickly and felt the benefits immediately. My youngest had very extensive open heart surgery at 11 weeks old - she’ll be 23 next week.

Thanks, Fiacre. With luck all will be well. He is looking forward to feeling better although he's okay - mostly just tires very quickly.
You must have been worried about your little daughter. She would have looked so helpless and tiny at that age.

I"m sorry Vince has to have open heart surgery; but he will be fine. My husband had it in 2004. Can he sleep in a recliner? That's what my husband and I do. Sending prayers and thoughts your way. Have a good day.

It is good to know what is going to be happening. Hopefully he will feel much better after the surgery.

At least we have dates now and the way the days are racing by, the two months will go very quickly.

Thank you. No doubt I'll be sharing from time to time here. MyLot is like having your own little sounding board. You can't always share too much with 'real' friends. It seems easier though to talk to virtual friends if you really need to.

Believe me, I know exactly what you mean. I truly appreciate the no pressure atmosphere here . . . we say just what we need to say - and get just enough response and support from our virtual friends. Yah, real life sharing can be a bit tricky . . . I have especially encountered that in the past couple years.

I would think that soon you will begin to prepare your home for when Vince is recovering.
Moving in another bed is a big undertaking.
You will need to adjust your everyday lives for a period of time, you could do a test run to make sure that everything is ready.

@LotusEyes His operation isn't until May. He is fine at the moment but gets tired quickly.

I am sure you are very concerned about it all. It does sound as if you have a good doctor. I would say try not to worry, but I also know that isn't possible to do in many cases, this being one of them. So many people seem to come through this with flying colors, it's just amazing what can be fixed in a person! Probably to Vince, the two worst things will be sleeping on his back, and not being able to drive!

I have found that staying positive is the very best way to live my life. It's good that you have the determination to do that.

Having to wait and wonder about medical procedures etc. can really drag. It can discourage and debilitate you all the way around.

You now have an idea what is happening. Those are routine surgeries now. I know it's still scary . Thinking of both of you

Thanks. I'm sure these operations happen several times a day but it's very personal for us. The doctor and hospital have a good track record so we have every reason to be hopeful of a successful outcome.

as for sleep on his back,I think a latex mattress will help a lot,I hardly turn over since I got one years ago.

Thanks for the suggestion and information on the latex mattress. That's a good idea.
