Approximately How Many Books Do You Have?

United States
March 15, 2024 9:57am CST
I like to think of myself as an avid reader. I have two bookshelves full of books. One is in my bedroom and the other is in the living room. The total for both bookshelves is maybe around 50 physical books. I also have a Kindle with about 200 books downloaded. Between both the physical books and my downloads I thought I had quite a lot of books. But, you never know what you're going to come across on social media. This morning someone posted that her Kindle was losing memory and she was afraid she was going to lose all 2100 books she had downloaded. 2100 books certainly shocked me and for her sake I hope she doesn't lose any. If you're a reader, how many books do you have?

@snowy22315 I donated a lot of my books last year as I knew I wouldn't read them again. I rarely read a book more than once.

I don't know how many books I have. I do know that I don't have enough room on my bookshelf! It is only a small bookshelf but it is full, there are several books piled on top of other books, then there is a sort of nook in the wall where more books are stored. There are also various boxes put away underneath beds and things because they don't fit anywhere else. Considering I don't read much, I do own a lot of books. Saying that, there are three other adults living here with many of their books.

@Marilynda1225 yes, and I don't think we have read half of them. I admit, though, that I have a couple of favourites I've read several times. They're children's books ('Funny Bones' and 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar') but I still enjoy them. I don't have the attention span to read anything longer, nor the memory to read things and come back to them later

Sounds like you have lots and lots of books for all the adults living there.

@Marilynda1225 I don't very often either. But figured if I want to read something I can get it at the library

@wolfgirl569 the library comes in handy when you're looking for a book or books. I have so many that I haven't read both physical and downloaded that I haven't needed to go to the library in quite awhile.

Oh, wow! That’s a heck of a lot of books. Well, a lot of my books are currently in my dad’s garage; my apartment won’t fit too many. My book shelf in my living room has about 50, and my Kindle has about 200. I donated a lot to the library several years ago, so hopefully someone is giving those a work out.

I donated a lot of my books to the nursing home where my mom was before she passed away. They had a library there and they really appreciated my books. Every once in awhile I think about packing up some more and bringing them there.

I can claim that I am a bookworm. However, I cannot count them all. Most of them are still packed in boxes. They are in such a situation because I have not touched them since we moved here to our new place.

@Marilynda1225 I do miss reading novels, but I do not have enough time. I keep on buying them and put them aside most of the time.

I can understand how it is when you don't get around to unpacking when you move. I still have boxes that I've never unpacked since I moved and guaranteed when I do I'll find boooks

I have no idea how many books I have but I have books in both Latvian and English. I had many more but gave many away to my stepdaughter when I left Latvia. When I found out she still had those books and other things stuffed into a garage and it's been six years and I am sure that everything has molded and been destroyed and can now be just thrown away I would have packed them to be sent to me here in Florida, Nothing to be done for it now she still has to this day not sorted through that stuff,

@Marilynda1225 either sent to me or because there are so many she could give them to the library.

Thats such a shame. If she sorted through them and they weren't ruined it would be worth having them sent to you

I'm not counting them. I have two tall bookshelves full of books and two smaller bookshelves. I don't have enough room for all my books, so some are laying on other books across the top of books while others lay across the front of books on tall bookshelves. Wait, I just remembered, I have a secretary with two shelves of books. I brought another up from the community center yesterday to add to my collection. I don't have a kindle. Nine of the books on my shelves are books I authored. They need a place too.

Your books that you authored should have their own display I can't say I'm surprised that you have lots of books. I would be surprised if you didn't. I started downloading books on my Kindle when I was finding the print in physical books a bit difficult for me to read. At least with the Kindle I can adjust the font and enjoy my book

@Marilynda1225 As much as I don't like Kindle, I might need to indulge in one too for the same reason. I thought about my own display, but the top shelf is a good place for them. One bookcase is all resource books. That's my two-shelf bookcase. Not the secretary.

I really didn't expect you to actually count each book. I was just looking for a general idea of how many books you had (or anyone else reading this post). I thought the person who had over 2000 books had a lot but I see from comments that it's not that unusual.

I have about 100 physical books. I used to be a voracious reader; but lately I can't seem to concentrate on reading. Also, the small print has been hard to read. Hope you have a great weekend.

That's why I switched to my Kindle. I was finding the print in physical books too small and with my Kindle I can adjust the font. I can understand that you don't have the mindset to read. I hope things get back to normal.

Bookstores and libraries are some of my favorite places to visit. I spend way too much in the bookstores and take more books home from the libraries than I can read during the time limit. However, I have not been to either in years. I used to have a nice small library of books myself but lost most of them. I still have books but don't really read them anymore. I have a Kindle that I use on my desktop, but I have not used the desktop in a long time. Too many other things keeping me from reading these days.

I can also get lost in a bookstore or library. I haven't been to the library since the pandemic but when I did go I came home with more books than I could read. Sometimes I had to extend the due date just to be able to finish them. Hopefully one day you'll get back into reading again

I've gotten rid of books over the last year but I used to have more than I had room to store them. I decided to donate all the ones I had read so now I know whatever is on the shelves I haven't read yet.

Between Mike and I think we have around 75-100 books, none on any electronics though. Hope that lady doesn't lose hers. That is a lot.

That certainly would be a horrible loss if that lady lost all her books. I'm sure she would be devastated not only to lose the books but I was thinking about how much money she must have invested in buying them

I do most of my reading on my KIndle lately. It's just easier to adjust the font and some of the books I have the print is very small.
