"Camogie" is an Irish female team sport played with a stick and a ball. Tall H-shaped goals are used and when the ball goes between the posts, the team gets points. "Hurling" is a similar version played by men. I am not an expert on the game and had never heard of it before moving to Ireland. Now my daughter is learning and she loves it. I attend all of the trainings and it's very interesting. Have you heard about Camogie and Hurling and have you ever played? Which sport is most popular in your country?

I remember that I heard of Hurling, but never Camogie. The most popular sport here in Switzerland is Hockey.

It kind of looks like hockey. I am not sure about the game rules. Camogie is new to us as well, and it's very interesting.

@besweet I do not like sports, I know that Hokey (on ice) is popular here, but I know nothing about the rules.

@LadyDuck The field for Camogie looks like a rugby field most probably. I will learn more info gradually, my daughter started recently and we are still learning! I know nothing about the rules either. For now they just stand and try to hit the ball with the stick, and they do some exercise as well.

We were in Middle East before. They had many projects before the world cup and we worked there for a few years.

It looks like hockey or rugby, right?! I have never tried this game before. Here, girls often play badminton, basketball, volleyball, soccer...

@besweet In my opinion, we should choose a sport that we like to pursue to stay healthy. I'm learning to swim. Swimming is also a good sport. What do you think?

@tkonlinevn Yes swimming is great indeed. I like swimming too. I am ok with any sport my daughter chooses. I would prefer something that I can play too so we can play together, but anyway it will be her choise.

@besweet I love watching volleyball games but I don't know how to hit the ball. I can only serve the ball. I love shooting basketball but really don't know how to play

I hadn't heard of hurling before our first trip to Ireland in the late 1990s. The lady at the B&B where we stayed had been in the state team. I didn't realise there were separate games for men and women.

I didnt know either. I asked the other parents at the class this morning and they said that the teams get seperated to boys and girls at the age of 5 or 6. Before that age, they have mixed teams and play together. Did you travel to Ireland all the way from Australia?

@JudyEv I understand, it's a very long flight. I am sure he'll be missing his family and the sunny weather and he will visit soon.

@besweet Yes, we've been a few times. Our son has lived there since about 1998. We have probably made our last trip though. He will have to come to see us in future.

I have heard of hurling (though I don't think I have ever seen it) and didn't realise it was gender-specific. Glad your daughter is having fun. Where did you live before?

I think it's the same game but the men's version is called hurling. If someone local wants to step in to clarify this it would be great. I am not sure either.
