My life has been crazy since last I posted a discussion. Hubby took a turn for the worse a few days after I last posted. The call from the hospital came on Sunday (Mother’s Day) at bedtime. “Your husband is having difficulty breathing, we’d like you to come. Don’t Rush!” It’s about an hour drive to the hospital. The roads are excellent, but the possibility of hitting a moose while driving that section of highway in the spring is exceptionally high. I didn’t rush, I drove with care and arrived at the hospital, there was a cot waiting to be set up next to my husbands bed. First the doctor met with me, explaining all of the issues my husband was dealing with. Then all the possible or likely outcomes of various courses of treatment, There were no good outcomes possible. In the middle of the night we made the agonizing decision to stop all treatments and move towards “comfort care”. Morning came and I needed to inform our children of what had transpired in the night. Two of our daughters spent Monday morning adjusting their work schedules to allow them to join me at the hospital. Tuesday afternoon the girls arrived. My son and four of the grandkids spent the afternoon visiting with my husband. Wednesday morning my husband of almost 49 years, passed away peacefully. My heart is broken.
