I´m going to start my own challenge.

I have found out that I will have money problems this June, So I decided to challenge myself and not buy any groceries (except for Luna´s food) during this month. I don´t know if I will be able to do it. But I will try it. Now I will read my notifications. See you.

I am strapped financially every month. Believe me, if you try hard enough you can get by, I order groceries once a month, and in between I work on surveys and get either cash or gift cards and then order things that I might need. I always use a gift card for Amazon to get the dry food for the cats. Lately I have been lucky and a bit gets left over each month,

It is easier to get money from surveys if you live in the US. But I have a well stocked freezer and pantry so I´m sure that I can skip a month if I change a little my eating habits.

I think I have most of my minimum needs. Probably I´ll need bread, but not right now.

I hope you reach your goal. It's been a challenge the past 2 years to budget the money for groceries and utilities. We're not hard up but it's just astounding to see how our grocery spendings have more than tripled and the gas prices won't drop to an affordable rate. Good thing we've moved to a place that's very near work and school. My husband and kids just walk. We've saved a lot of gas money since.

@almostoveryou I would have had to do that if it wasn´t for some money I inherited.

I am retired. And my retirement money has nothing to do with the way prices go up.

@marguicha I've heard that retirees in some countries have gone back to work because their pension is no longer enough to sustain them.

Food would be the last thing I'd give up, but rather just find ways to stretch the food budget further. But I guess that depends on whether or not you think you have enough to cover the month without replenishing anything.

I am a food hoarder so I have a big freezer full of food (meat and dishes I´ve made) and the pantry is full too. I will not have enough expensive cheeses to last me until the end of the month but that will be about it.

@porwest I have learned to keep perishables in good shape for some time. I had to learn to do that at the pandemia. But as I live alone, a lettuce can last almost a month if you just wash the 2 or 3 leaves that you will use. The worst thing that we can do a the perishables is to place them in contact with water. For others, I don´t let them get in contact with oxigen (as in halved avocados).

@marguicha Ah. You should do fine with it, then. The only area that would hurt me would be the perishables. But maybe you can do without them?

Somehow, with your love of eggs, I can’t see you going without them, or bread, as you mentioned. I’m sorry things are so tight for you right now. Is there any news on selling your house, and finding a smaller one?

@MarieCoyle But as the gardener cleaned up the garden before it started to rain, maybe the water will help in the end.

That will be a little hard, but I think you can do it! You will probably get tired of it by the end of the month though! I'm going to message you the name of a site that I use for free gift certificates! It's easy to do!!

I should challenge myself, but it is hard because my husband expects to eat meat every day for dinner and that can be expensive. I personally could go without eating meat every day.

I used to eat a lot more meat when I was young. Now, when I´m lazy, I make an omelette with whatever leftover I have in the fridge.

All prices are going up, it's hard to have enough money to pay all the bills. I hope you have enough food even if you do not order grocery.

If you have enough groceries, it would be OK to cut short on them. I buy small amounts of groceries every month and cut short on clothes and delay on any house maintenance work.

Not buying food and not having food are too different things. Hope you will not starve in June. See, if there are ways you can get some more household earnings or can roll over money from July to June. Any case, do what you think works for you. Thanks
