My poor tootsies are languishing out of sight this summer

I was looking forward to summer because all winter it’s quite a chore getting dressed in multiple layers of clothes every day, so I was anticipating warm days when I could just throw on a cotton dress and that would be it. And one of the joys of summer is being able to go barefoot. My poor feet, hardly seen for so many months, would be able to enjoy their moment in the sun and fresh air, and could get dressed up with pretty anklets and nice nail polish and maybe even a ring or two. Alas it is not to be. We’ve had one week of warm summery weather so far, but this week and last is more like March again, cool and windy, and today it has been pouring down. Of course I’m glad, for the sake of the plants, because although we had a phenomenal amount of rain earlier in the year, the ground was getting rather dry and I had had to start watering things, which is incredibly time-consuming and tedious. But I am back to three layers of clothes and my feet are out of sight again in socks and boots. Sorry @Orson_Kart All rights reserved. © Text and image copyright Fleur 2024.

Sometimes seasons take too long to change. Except winter. It usually comes fast and hard. Oh well. What can you do?

We are actually having nicer weather now than we had most of the summer!

@Fleura Here too. We are going to be back up into the 80s for a spell this week. I'll gladly take it.

My husband is always cold, I am wearing a summer dress, but I had to close the windows today, it's pouring rain, thunders and lightnings. No way that I am back to socks.

@Fleura - We had devastating storms from Saturday afternoon until last night. All the roads were closed because of flooding. Impossible to eat outside, even under a gazebo.

I wore a dress today, but it was a thickish cotton one and I had a camisole underneath and a jacket too! We were visiting a cousin who has quite a small house, she had put a gazebo in the garden for us all to eat, luckily, because part way through it started pouring down!

Wow, Blodwyn! Are those your feet? I’m not usually a sucker for toes, but those are magnificent. Lily Allen, eat your heart out. If hers are worth £8 a picture, yours should be at least a tenner. Cute pinkies. After being trapped in wellies for months, I’d expect them to be battered and bruised, but no, not even any sign of a bunion or fungal infection. It’s a travesty they’ve had to go back into hiding, but I’m sure summer will return and you can get them out again. The addition of anklets and rings might just be too much for me though. Your partner is a lucky man!

@fleura You sound like my wife - always cold. She always takes a hot water bottle on holiday - even to Greece in July. I hope you get to dress your feet up in paint and jewellery before autumn arrives.

Actually no, I'm usually the one who's too warm! But it is unseasonably cold here right now.

That's a shame for your poor tootsies. They were probably looking forward to being free from restraints and showing themselves off.

You should come here to the US. Many areas are having above average temps; and people are baking in the heat. Have a good day.

Sorry but I wouldn't like that either! I'd be quite happy with the ordinary British summer!

One of the things I love about summer is to wear flip flops and sandals. I´m sorry that you have had to be back to winter shoes.

You would probably then love the tropical heat we are having in Florida. I live in my Crocs here but even inside during the summer my feet sweat so I have just ordered some flip flops so my feet are al open and comfortable,
