The gas man has just come to fix our oven.....

.....but he couldn't do it! We previously had a man come out to sort out the buttons on the front of the cooker that we couldn't press in any more because they were wearing out! They gave us new buttons, which were supposed to be better, but we couldn't even press them in at all! Later, we had a power cut. It caused the clock on the cooker to flash when the electric came back on. We couldn't get the clock to come back right because we couldn't press the buttons in. Without the clock we can't use the fan oven. It doesn't even come on! We can use the grill, and the grill can be used as an oven, but we really would like to be able to use the big oven. We left it ages before phoning someone to come out to look at it. But today at last a man came out. He was an electrician from the gas board. () He thought that the buttons were too far in that's why we couldn't press them. He thought all he'd need to do was move the panel that they were on back a bit and then the buttons would work. Well, he tried it, but it didn't work! He tried, but it was no good! So now were having a new cooker! Mum says it's going to be similar to our old one. I hope so, because I really don't want to have to learn how to use the cooker all over again! Our cooker has a touch control hob. I like it that way. I don't know when our new cooker will be coming. I'll be sure to tell you about it when it does. (Picture above:- The unpressable buttons on our cooker!) What are you lot getting up to today? I hope you are all well. Have a nice day.

It sounds like you've had quite the adventure with your oven troubles! Dealing with malfunctioning buttons and then trying to fix them, only to end up needing a new cooker, must have been frustrating. Hopefully, your new cooker will be similar to your old one, with that touch control hob you like. Wishing you a smooth day ahead and that your new cooker arrives soon!

It is pretty frustrating. Only one person can use the grill oven at any one time. When our big oven was working 2 people could cook two different things at the same time. I don't know what our new cooker will be like. I hope it's not too different from our current one. Thank you very much. I hope so too.

You should have taken the opportunity to get yourself an air fryer. There’s a sale on just about everywhere to get yourself a bargain. Those buttons look well used!

@sharonelton Really? They look well used. Air fryers are great and cheaper to run than a conventional oven. Slow cookers the same. Excellent for stews, curries, etc. Bung it all in the cooker in the morning and it’ll be ready for your meal in the evening. Job done. Money saved. What’s not to like?

Ah, no. I'm not really interested in an air fryer. My Mum has a slow cooker that I got her for Christmas one year that doesn't get used any more! Those buttons haven't been used at all because we can't press them in!

@Orson_Kart They're dirty because of getting food and stuff splashed on them, that's all! I don't eat stews or currys, and I mostly use the hob. I use the oven on a Sunday for my salmon bites and salmon skewers for tea.

Many years ago when I was living my trailer, I accidently pulled off the knob of my oven. When it was put back on it was out on wrong. I had to use a marker to label what the correct setting was. The oven I have now is great. My uncle had a toaster oven and he used so much that the numbers near the knobs wore off. I hated using that toaster oven because I couldn't set it right. My mother decided to get a new one and it works perfectly.

Oh, dear! That doesn't sound very good! I'm glad you've got a good oven now. I'm glad your Mum got a new toaster oven too and I'm glad that works. Well, we've had our cooker for approx 27 years now so I think we're due a new one anyway. It's not the actual cooker that's the problem. That still works fine. It's just those stupid buttons the other gas men put on a while back that we can't even press in! Our new cooker is due within 10 days we've been told.

Buttons aren't much good if you can't press them in. I hope the new cooker will be easy to manage.

No, that's right. Because we couldn't press the buttons in or change the clock we couldn't use the timer on the cooker, so I got a portable timer from Tesco. It has a magnet on the back so we stick it on the boiler!

@JudyEv Yes, I like using my little timer. It can also be used as a stop clock!

I am sorry no one could fix the buttons on your oven for you. It is bad that appliances don't last like they used to. I hope the new one arrives soon for you.

Thank you very much, that's very kind of you. We've had this cooker almost as long as we've lived in this house. We moved here around 1996. The new fitted kitchen with the cooker included was probably put in the following year but I don't know for sure. So it has had a good run really. Thank you very much. I hope so too.

It's a shame really because it still works OK. It's just because we can't reset the clock.
