Such an underutilized resource. I too have not been in years. Part of the reason is because my local library is so loud now. No one has respect anymore inside the library. Not many follow the golden rule of no loudness in the library. But libraries are a vast network of knowledge. They are also a free and cheap way to have fun.

It's been ages, I used to have a card (it was free) and I might not have returned one book. Hopefully they forgot. But maybe I can still get there and read on the spot. I can check if libraries in my area have books I'd like to read but I haven't been lucky so far. Then the library in the closest bigger city also used to provide CDs and DVDs, I don't know if they still do. I'd have to bring my own earphones if that's the case.

I haven't actually been inside our local library in years but I do occasionally download a book from them. Technology has made me lazy when it comes to borrowing a book.

@RebeccasFarm It's so easy and lately I've preferred to reading a downloaded book to an actual physical book

Our libraries are well used by the new immigrants, and they can be quite loud and intimidating so I try to steer clear of going to our library for that reason.

Your libraries must be lovely and civilized. Or were at one time.

@RebeccasFarm They have become more of a community hub than not. They host reading groups from toddlers up to adults. They have alot to offer. But nothing for the quiet person, like me, who just wants to get in and look at some books and check them out.

The last time I went to a public library was around 2005 before Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf Coast. I enjoyed my time visiting the library.

@RebeccasFarm The library I used to go was especially made for study purpose, students over there mostly prepared for competitive exams. It was a private library and we had to pay for slots. Each slots consits of 4 hours.

Daughter and I go every weekend - that's where we do zumba for free! You're so right about the lack of manners these days in libraries .

@RebeccasFarm We gotta support these public libraries as they try to stay relevant in these times. I would hate for them to go on the chopping block - communities need them!

we have a small library in the village which is enough for what we want. But I agree they are great places. The one in Donnybrook had lots of things other than books. Books were in a minority compared to other stuff.

I had the privilege of visiting the public library in San Jose, CA about a month ago while we were vacationing. I love how small and quiet that branch is. They've got a bigger branch somewhere, but the one we went to was good enough. So many good books. I wish I could take them out. We don't have a lot of public libraries here.

Haven't been there for over a year. I used to get the tax stuff they put out before letting a CPA do my taxes. I have gone in the past to do research on particular topics. But with the internet able to provide the same info, it makes library visits a rarity for me these days. A loud library OT! Gee, and that was one of the main reasons for going to study. To be free of noise.

they are not free here, sadly. maybe if you're a smaller child or a retired person. for all the rest, you have to pay it. i wish i could go there or maybe just to print some documents; i would even use my own print paper but just my imagination.

The last time I visited a library was while I was in college. I used to run to the library for the texts and additional study material . I did visist a few libraries in my area at that point, but did not spend time reading books.Did glance books and well you are right in pointing out that now there are less crowd for library. With advent of internet, information is mostly available online. Well, it was fun to be in library!
