Win a gold medal and you can have a pet duck

Arisa Trew won a gold medal at the Olympics in skate-boarding. What is a bit special about this is that Arisa is only 14 years old and the youngest Australian to ever win a gold medal. Arisa goes to a special school where they do normal lessons in the morning then spend the afternoons at a skate park. I guess she has had every chance to do well but it’s still a remarkable achievement. Skate-boarding has a language all its own with each trick having a special name. Some of the tricks they do on their skateboards make my hair stand on end. The other thing I love is that, if Arisa won a gold medal, the only thing she wanted was a pet duck. I wonder if she’ll pick one like the one in the photo. If she is at the next Olympics at the age of 14, I bet it won't be a pet duck that she asks for.

I like how innocent and humble she is. Getting an Olympic gold medal at 14 is amazing!

The pet duck in the photo is cute. Do medal winners in Australia get cash rewards from the government or other sponsored organizations?

@LindaOHio Any creature that you spend time with develops a personality. Well, actually, they don't develop it as such but you do pick up on it.

@JudyEv We had two mallards (Homer and Jethro) for about a year until their wings grew back and they flew off. The guy who had them before us clipped their wings. They were such characters.

This duck looks as if he/she goes to Donald Trump's hair stylist. It sounds as if Arisa goes to a pretty neat school.

She was very keen on her school - spending the afternoon with other kids, all refining their skills on their skateboards.

Hee hee - I hope she gets her pet duck . It's amazing she got Olympic Gold at only 14, but I guess the duck part shows her youth .

A pet duck would be small enough reward after all her work to win gold.

She didn't let the pressure get to her. She might be more nervous when she's older.
