Food is always a great and fun topic on myLot. Many of you are always discussing your daily meals and commenting on the meals of others. One of the things I routinely talk about when it comes to food is bacon. I just cannot stress enough how much I love bacon, and how much of my life is centered around bacon. Ask fellow myLotter Jim (@porwest), and he'll tell you of the many times I have raved about my favorite pork product.
International Bacon Day is coming up on Saturday, August 31st. So, of course, I will be celebrating at home that morning, but I also didn't want to miss out at work either. The company I work for is preparing for annual store inventory next week, so it will be a pretty busy and labor intensive week for us. In preparation, yesterday (Friday) I was able to convince our store manager to purchase bacon to cook for all the employees (about 225 of us). Needless to say, LOTS of bacon!
I am the manager in our Receiving Department in the back of the store, so it always falls on us to do any cooking for the store associates. Which we do not mind at all, because we are always cooking for ourselves. You should see our assortment of grilling equipment, including gas grills, pellet grills, smokers, griddles and deep fryers, just to name a few. We keep everything in the back of the store and use it all on a frequent basis (what can I say, we like to eat!).
Anyway, I digress. We fired up the griddle yesterday morning and cooked bacon for everyone. The aroma of bacon filled the entire store, and all of our customers walking into the store were commenting on how good it smelled inside our store. And boy did we cook a lot of bacon, probably too much. Every store associate who eats bacon was able to get their fill. The photo above shows what was still left at 4:00pm when I left work for the day.
Are you a fan of bacon as much as I am? Will you celebrate International Bacon Day on Saturday, August 31st? For those of you whose culture/religion forbids the eating of pork products, do you ever eat turkey bacon or other non-pork bacon products?
Hmm...all this talk of bacon is making me hungry!

For me, every day is Bacon Day! haha
Have you ever tried turkey bacon? My daughter loves it, I can tolerate it, but I want the real thing.
That's a beautiful picture of bacon you posted there!

@moffittjc — I sent it to JJ and said “these guys want to meet you for breakfast.”
I haven’t had turkey bacon but I love turkey (and chicken) sausage!

Short and sweet comment, yet speaks volumes. I need to make me a t-shirt that says "I love bacon."

Bacon is my favorite meat of any meal by far! Not just breakfast! LOL
Yes, we overdid it with the bacon at work. But when you put me in charge of cooking my favorite meat, that is the result you are going to get.

I never really thought of that, but you are probably right. It’s too bad we don’t sell bacon at my work, we could have sold quite a bit that day.

@porwest And no matter how full I am, if I smell bacon cooking I instantly get hungry for it.

When it comes to bacon, it's never occasionally. It's always. lol
I have found that making turkey bacon in my new air fryer actually makes it taste somewhat like regular bacon. But there will never be a substitute for the real thing.

@NJChicaa I agree. It's a good substitute when you don't have time for the real thing, or don't want the mess to deal with. I use to make it for my kids each morning before school. It was quick and easy, and they loved it.

@moffittjc I like turkey bacon because it cooks faster and doesn't splatter grease all over. The trade-off though is that it never gets crisp like real bacon. Still it is a good option for me on a work morning when I need something fast to go with my eggs.

I love bacon but haven't had any in a couple of years. We went on a short trip then; and I had bacon with my breakfast every day. I can no longer cook; and hubby has trouble standing too long; so I miss out on a lot of favorites. Have a good day and enjoy your bacon on the 31st!

We will have to plan on BLT sandwiches for lunch to mark the occasion!!
It sounds like ya'll have fun at this job!! I remember my first job for the State of Louisiana. It was at the Department of Buildings and Grounds. We oversaw all the state owned buildings and property and kept them all up to date with repairs. It was a fairly small department and divided into Admin and Shop. We always cooked big dinners for holidays and had a full kitchen that we could use if we wanted to for lunch preparation.

This job can be stressful at times, but we try to make the most of it by having fun when we can. We love to eat (and to barbecue), so we look for every reason in the world to do a cookout.

I used to make turkey bacon for my kids every morning before they would go to school (when they were little). It’s been a while since I’ve had turkey bacon.

Yes, she definitely bought too much bacon, but I didn’t complain. I like bacon way too much to ever complain about it.
I love bacon so much that I can’t go more than a few days at a time without eating some.

Bacon definitely makes it worth going to work, but after eating said bacon, it makes it very difficult to actually get any work done.

@porwest I was a lost cause after eating all that bacon! I pretty much went into a food coma.
