Do you prefer to receive a gift that is a surprise or a gift that you asked for and know beforehand what it will be?. This is in relation to birthday, anniversary ,Christmas, Valentine gifts.
When it comes to gifts some people do not think about "its the thought that counts" - they want something they like and can use.
Sometimes you manage to choose the perfect gift and other times the gift is exchanged or stored on the highest shelf.
I like surprises, so maybe l should have two gifts - one l asked for and the other a surprise. I could do the same when l am giving a gift.
Which do you prefer? Surprise me or get what l asked for?

I like both.A few years ago I was jobless and had no money.I wanted to buy a book on Sanskrit grammar. It was a costly book and I could not afford it.Just the next day my maternal uncle came to see my mother. He gifted me the same book I was yearning to have.It was a surprise.I have no words to tell you how happy I was.

@Kandae11 To me it was no less than a miracle.I wonder how and why he purchased the same book that I needed.

What I asked for. However, like at Christmas for instance, the smaller gifts are usually surprises.

I agree with what you say that we usually looking forward for a gift that we can really use in our daily activity.
The laptop that I am using is a gift from a dear cousin, this is his old laptop, I ask him if he can give me a tablet and he just laugh, and teased me by saying tablet - paracetamol? I am referring to a gadget he is referring to a tablet medicine. But after 6 months he message me and ask me what I really need, and I told him where will I use it, and he decide for me, that it is better for me to have a laptop and viola, when he visited the Philippines he brought his old laptop to give to me.
This laptop is old but very fast and functioning well, except it can't be upgraded, but I'll ask the tech if not.

At my age I kind of like to receive a gift I know I'll use or need. Gift cards are best because when I need or want something it's not coming out of my pocket, and I always thank that person and let them know what I bought with it.

I'd rather get what I asked for — that way, I know I’ll like it or need it. Surprises are fun, but not if I can't use the gift. I'd rather be surprised in other ways instead. Just being practical!
