Do you remember Pikachu?

A five-year-old piano student came in for his piano lesson wearing a Pokemon ball t- shirt yesterday. I noticed it was sparkly and said "I like your t-shirt. It's sparkly." I then asked, "Is that one of those sparkly t-shirts that becomes something else if you rub it?" He said "yes," rubbed the sparklies, and it showed Squirtle and Charmander, two Pokemon I am familiar with. Pokemon has been around for something like 20 years now. Working with kids, I got to know several of the early (I think there were 150) characters. I even know many of their "powers." We all remember Bugs Bunny (or is it Buggs?) from our childhood days. Rocky and Bullwinkle too. Do you remember (or know) Pokemon? How many Pokemon can you name?

Animes were part of my grandchildren´s world but I did not follow them. I did have some cartoons I loved. Twitty was a favorite (so evil!) And I also loved Tom and Jerry. But I know the name Pikachu.

I have seen it but I barely know the name. Never heard of Rocky and Bullwinkle, but I loved Donald Duck.

@LadyDuck Funny. I did too! I think I was looking at Babar books when I was in Italy. That would have made me 4-years-old at the time.

Rocky and Bullwinkle was an excellent (and somewhat "heady") cartoon from my childhood days.

I learn of new characters from my kid students at Guitar Center. There's oe out there now called Huggy Wuggy. He's all sweet most of the time. But he sometimes turns into this monster with sharp teeth.

@wolfgirl569 I was almost killed by an Asian teenager who walked directly in front of my bicycle on a bike path as I was cycling. He was playing Pokemon Go. I should have just nailed him and braced for impact. My lightning baseball reflexes saved both of us.

I just know Pokemon by name — that it's a popular anime, and I recognize Pikachu as the most famous character, but that's about it. I didn't even watch it back then.

@TheHorse Funny how I didn't watched any episodes of Pokemon given how popular it was back then. But I have watched some other animes like Dragon Ball even Voltes V or Daimos and Ghost Fighter. I also loved the classic Disney characters.

I've seen Teletubbies. There is a "developmentally appropriate" TV show for the infants and toddlers I sometimes see. Coco Melon. Does that sound right?

My kids are still into Pokemon, so I haven't even had a chance to forget about Pikachu . I know some of the characters, either by name or looks, but I really don't know a whole lot about them. You seem to know more than me .

Ah, the golden age of cartoons! I remember the days of watching Pokémon and Pikachu, marveling at their adventures. It was a simpler time when cartoons were clean, wholesome, and filled with positive messages. Shows like the Berenstein Bears, The Flintstones, The Jetsons, Arthur, and Dora the Explorer taught valuable lessons while entertaining young audiences. But my personal favorite was Captain Planet, a show that encouraged environmental awareness and responsibility. It's a shame that many modern cartoons seem to lack the same quality and educational value.
