How Do We Really Know?

You know how some things just tend to stick with you? Little bits of conversations that make you wonder about certain people. People around you do questionable things that make you question just how ethical these people really are. A case in point is a woman I was friends with a few years ago. She and I had met when I was writing for a certain blog site.(She even followed me to Mylot and wrote on here for a while) She helped me and I helped her in our writing. English was not her first language so I would edit her work and give her the occasional suggestion. She in turn helped me to word more in-depth subject matter. In the time I knew her I began to see her make some rather questionable decisions. There came a time when the blog site we had been writing for started making some changes and I was looking for another outlet for my writing. She sent me some possibilities that she had found. One was writing paragraphs about different products. She was working on it and I asked her some questions about it. Basically, she was writing fake reviews for certain products. This sent my head reeling. I didn't write for this site and I soon quit my relationship with her because this was not the only time I had seen her do and make weird and even questionable decisions on the type of work she would do. I really did not want to be associated with such a person. So, now I sometimes question the validity of reviews that I read online. Is this company/site paying someone to write fake reviews for their product? How do we really know?

You don't. Some people will post fake reviews. Some places you have to write the review, yourself and it has to be approved (like Amazon). But, unless you're the one writing it, you don't know if its honest. But, then you have to think of the site itself. People who post fake reviews aren't doing it on reputable sites.

It's tough when you realize someone you trusted isn't making ethical choices. I can understand why you'd distance yourself. It does make you think twice about online reviews and whether they're genuine or not. It's always good to stay cautious!

Had to. I didn't want something we collaborated on to be brought into question and my reputation hurt because of it.

@celticeagle That makes a lot of sense. Protecting your reputation is crucial, especially when it comes to something you've worked hard on. It's a shame when someone else's poor choices put you in a difficult position, but stepping back was the right move. It's better to be safe than sorry, even if it means making tough decisions.

It's hard to know if reviews about products are real but there is no way to check, Personally I feel that all product reviews should be legit so people know what to buy and what to expect,

@celticeagle I was thinking the same thing and then I found this
Despite e-commerce websites' best attempts, getting rid of every fake review quickly is nearly impossible. As a consumer, the key is knowing when to pass on a product by recognizing red flags in phony reviews.

One time I wrote a true review about some bad shampoo that the company sent me. The company paid me more to write a good review so I did or I would not get my money. That in the end make me mad and I have never wrote a review for that company again.

Many companies make it a point to make sure that their reviews are legitimate. Amazon had a problem with a lot of fake reviews at one time. Have a good long weekend.

Yeah, you never really know which reviews are legit these days. A lot of companies pay for fake reviews, so you always have to take them with a grain of salt and consider the kind of site they're on. Sorry you had to deal with that shady situation, but it's a good reminder to stay cautious.

Online reviews needs to be validated carefully. Most often fake reviews can be understood by the glossy words and writing without substance. Real reviews would often not care for the grammar or spelling errors and would speak of exact good and bad. But then , we need to spend time reading through reviews to get a picture. There are companies which promote fake reviews. There have been few who approached me as well, and I was not bit interested. Well, it is always nice to be away from people who have questionable characters.

Its funny that you post this as I NEVER read online reviews of anything. The internet is a toilet bowl... and you know what is in that. A person can buy a whatisit based on a review and when it doesn't work who can he sue?

I don't do it a lot. I write them more than I read them usually.
