And again – but in a different way!

I just wrote about how pleased I was to find exactly what I wanted on Freegle, the very next day after I thought I wanted one!
Now Freegle has hit the spot again, but in a different way.
Last week we visited our ‘usual’ beach and as we strolled along the sand I was horrified at the litter left behind. Before long I had to give in and start picking it up, although I didn’t really want to - I wasn’t prepared for it and didn’t have a litter picker or gloves and had to sacrifice one of my plastic shopping bags.
Anyway it was worth it because as well as empty cans and plastic bottles, discarded socks, food packaging and the like I found a frisbee and a selection of sand toys.
To give people the benefit of the doubt it is easy to lose toys when digging in the sand… anyway as I wandered along I picked up one here and another there until I had a whole bag full!
I got rid of the nasty rubbish in the nearest bin but I took the sand toys home, and washed and disinfected them all, thinking I would pass them on to someone in due course. And guess what – yesterday someone asked for sandpit toys for the new sandpit in their school!
The same teacher also asked for broken electrical appliances for the older children to take apart and see how they worked. And since I hate to throw anything out I had, in the space under the stairs, an electric toaster that no longer pops up, a kettle that doesn’t switch off properly and an ancient hand mixer that does still work but the beaters all fell apart. So I was able to give him those as well and he went away very happy!
So I cleared up some litter, saved several things from being thrown out, got rid of stuff I didn’t want and saved a local school some cash into the bargain, that’s what I call a win all round!

@fleura Please come to my “usual” beach you’ll find a lot of discarded under things disintegrating in the sand which, if laundered, could be used to stuff cushions. Also loads of rubber. Sorry to be so indelicate, but I can assure you none of it’s mine.

That was definitely a win-win situation. It's really sad how much trash is on the beaches.
I hope you have a good week.

It really was a win-win! You helped both the environment and a local school.
