Debit Card Blues

United States
September 1, 2024 6:12pm CST
Lately, whenever I'd try to use my debit card which have a chip, I've been having the most trouble. I'd put the chip in, and the cashier would say take it out, put it in again, then take it out. Well, this was done at two different stores. So, I went to the bank to get a new card, she said my chip was bad. She gave me the same card number, and I thought I was set. Well, called to pay my phone bill, and couldn't pay, the card expiration date, and the the code on the back had changed. My phone was off, called the bank on my son's phone, she said don't understand nothing you saying. I was totally about to lose it. Finally it worked out, phone back on. I made a purchase on Amazon last night, then found out there was a problem. Had to reset my payment info. Looks to me like the bank lady would have made a new card with all info, so I'll have more challenges next week. Did that ever suck, and still not over with. Hope you had a great day.

Had I known that, I never would have got a new card. It's been just awful.

Exactly. Had I known she was going to do that, I would have just kept using the old one. I have more trouble now, than before.

I hate when stuff like that happens. I thought I lost my new PO debit card today, the one I just got..I had to tear everything apart until I found it. I would hate to go through that whole process again.

I am sure. This is the most aggravating situation I've ever faced. Glad you found your card.

That would be so annoying. I hope you get it sorted easily but it might be a faint hope.

It's a real pain when you have to get a new card. Everytime you get a new card, the card experation date and code on the back have to change. That way no one can "accidently" use your old card and bankrupt you. You never know what people are capable of thease days. It's tedious having to update the info everywhere you go.

@popciclecold I'm surprised you didn't know that before you got the card replaced. Same thing happens when they send a new card because the old one has expired.

That’s the worst when you have to change everything because your card information changes. I have my cards saved on so many different websites that I cringe when I know I have upcoming changes.

I'm sure. I don't on many websites, but it was enough to frustrate me to all get out. Especially when my phone got turned off. Wasn't nothing nice. Have a good one. Did you ever remember the post you forgot. I wonder about it, at times.

@moffittjc It must have been a good one, since you don't post that often.

@popciclecold That’s funny you mentioned that “forgotten” discussion I wrote about. To this day, I still haven’t remembered what it was I wanted to write about. I still think about it as well.

I suppose the new car is NOT identical to the previous one and you need to enter the correct details now. It is such a pain when this happens.

I think things are much better in India. The expiry date is written on the card and we renew the card just before the expiry date.

Now that's a real hassle! Hope everything gets sorted out soon and you can avoid any more headaches! Shouldn't those debit cards with chips be contactless cards by now? Its easier that way, you don't need to insert the card but it seems like the chip cards are still causing trouble.

That is tough . I can relate to it and have a similar experience and still suffering. My debit expired while it was COVID time. I could not collect the same at the dispatched address and once COVID was over, went to bank to collect the same. After collecting, I noticed the bank has hotlisted the same since not been in use for over 6 months. Called the bank to issue a new card and they did and this time again it got hotlisted for not activating within 5 days. Called customer care and well lot of procedures for a new card to be issued. The best route would be wait for another 5 years to issue a new card. Well, atleast your challenges would be over a week or so. Well, you could think of getting a credit card and auto pay from your account. In that way you could earn cashbacks.
