At A Point Of Frustration

United States
September 3, 2024 4:04pm CST
Today, I was sitting on the bed, and my dogs began to bark. I looked out of the window and the man that cuts my yard was out there. Well, he came last week, to see if the grass needed to be cut. But it didn't need it, perhaps because there's been no rain. He asks when I want it cut. It began to grieve my spirit. I was sick for over a week with a cold, and didn't go to church, usually I give the money to his wife. The reason, I'm so frustrated is I paid him last month, I'm sure, he says I still owe him. I really don't recall, but I thought we were all caught up. I'll give him a check, for last time he says, then he wants to come cut it again. Leaving me to still owe. But it won't happen again this time. I don't like the frustrating mood he puts me in. I'm so glad grass cutting season is almost over. I know things are hard for most people, but this person has a job, as a prison guard, I feel like he's trying to take advantage, if I could only be sure that we are squared away, I'd find me someone else, to mow my lawn. Not in a good mood. He just ruined my day.

I hope you can find an honest person to cut your grass. You should write down every time you pay him, the date and amount and have him put his signature or initials by it so it is recorded that you paid.

Totally agree, you need proof and if he signs it he can't argue.

I’m so sorry. It does sound like he’s trying to take advantage of you, and that is so unfair.

That sounds like one of my kids' sports instructors long ago. He got real snarky about us owing him, when we had indeed paid already . . . we paid by check so I could have shown him bank proof if he wanted. He threatened to check his books again . . . GO AHEAD, we told him. I got a lame phone apology from him . . . so after that month - we left that studio .

Yeah, last week I came home and he was up here on his tractor. The grass didn't need to be cut.

I think you should look around for someone else but I understand that that may not be easy to do.

I am definitely thinking about it. I talked to a friend about it about 2 months ago, and she's been knowing him for years, she says he's just greedy for money. It's very frustrating.

I would be keeping track by check and making sure of the price at the beginning of the season. If you have the checks and keep receipt of them then you have proof of payment. Checks or some kind of receipt each time really pays off in the long run.

Get it in writing. Make a contract if you're going to pay someone to do anything. Document everything. That way yu can't be taken advantage of.

This is not a good person. It is best to find someone who can do the job well and be trusted.

Sorry, that guy is so insistent. For next year I think you should consider some eager student who would be happy to get money for mowing a lawn,

That's not good, you need some way of keeping proof that you've paid. A check would be better than cash for that.

I gave him a check. That's why it bothered me so. He just acts desperate. Getting on my nerves.

That's really irritating. In India it's difficult to get people to maintain your garden. My security helps me.

I have had that issue with the last plumber I had in, plus he did a poor job and only wanted cash or a money order. I would always your lawn guy a check so you have a record in the future. Is it possible his wife did not give him the money or tell him you paid?

Ugh, that’s really frustrating! It’s tough dealing with someone who doesn’t keep clear records, especially when you’re already dealing with a lot. I hope things smooth out soon and you find a reliable solution for your lawn.
