As usual, I woke up at around 5:00 AM. I am the one preparing my niece's lunch to go to school. So, I also woke her up. But it still rains heavily due to the current typhoon today. Despite there being no class suspension announcement, I declared that she could not go to school in this kind of situation. What are you going to do if you were in my shoes? Same. My kids school mentioned last time that we as parents and guardians have the right to not let them go to class in such cases

They are so right with this matter. I also explained to my niece that it is fine not to go to school today. She acknowledged it and let her to some household chores at home to keep her busy today.

There was a class suspension announcement yesterday. Both on TV and radio. The problem perhaps you and you niece failed to listen?

We did check this morning and there is not announcement in our city. We usually check the Facebook where the city officials usually give certain issues like this.

It sounds like it was a good idea to keep your niece home if the weather is so bad.

Since we do not want to worry her teacher, we also sent a message about this concern. This evening, it seems the weather became calmer than this morning. So, she can go to school by tomorrow.

In the U.s. When we close schools due to dangerous weather, they remain closed unless otherwise notified. In the case of hurricanes, they can give a tenitive timeline as to when classes will resume. As for you, you need to think of the safety of your child first.

You are right. The weather turned gloomy and was not pouring heavy rains this afternoon. In this kind of situation, she can go to school by tomorrow. It is better to be safe than nothing has done.

This morning, my niece was hesitant not to go to school. I explained to her that it is the parent or guardian's discretion not to. It is safer to be sorry after, as I claimed.

I agree. The mother texted the teacher about this matter. As of tomorrow, my niece needs to bring her excuse letter.

Given the heavy rain and the typhoon, I’d totally agree with you on keeping her home. Safety first, right? I’d probably do the same—make sure she’s cozy and safe at home, and maybe spend the day with some indoor activities.

Yes, she did catch up with her sleep after we decided not to go to school. I kept busy helping me cook our meals for lunch and dinner. She was quite handy when it came to cooking in the kitchen department.
