Everlastings in our street

At our lifestyle village, Vince and I have an ‘outside’ house, meaning one boundary fronts on to a public street. We are opposite a school. The verges are maintained by the city council but we can plant the verges if we want to. A few doors down, there is this lovely display of everlastings. They have been commercially produced so are a bit different to the everlastings we saw on our wildflower trip. After Vince had done his exercises, we walked to the everlastings and back. Now he is asleep again. When he awakes, it will be more exercises and more walking. This time next week he should be much improved.

@JudyEv Documenting your steps takes all the pleasure out of a nice walk and turns it into a chore! I Paris last week my steps app told me I was averaging 22,880 steps a day.

@xFiacre You'll be worn off to the knees if you keep that up. Seriously though, that's very commendable.

We saw a physiotherapist today and he is pushing the walking. We have to document the distance/steps whatever so that will put the pressure on.

Quite nice looking! And the intensity of the sunshine implies impending summers. On the other hand we have been having lots of rains and a lot of days with dark, grey clouds hovering. Today we got good sunshine in between. Yet there were a few spells of heavy downpour by evening. Max is around 28 C and min around 22-23 C. Even many March days are hotter ! Good to know about Vince's progress. Wish you all the best!

@JudyEv Not as of now. Yet there are winter days with a maximum of 25 to 27 C and minimum of just 10 to 11 C. Often people tend to get cough and cold in such variations!!

Thanks for the good wishes. There isn't much variation between your maximums and minimums, is there?

There were ever lasting flowers in our garden but the leaves looked different. I have lost many other varieties of flowers. Good to know Vince is improving.

@JudyEv The leaves of your everlasting flower plants resemble those of the leaves of Daffodils

I think each country has similar names for different plants. I know our dandelions differ from the English version.

It might take a while before he is totally over it but he is doing well so far. The anaesthetic is supposed to take a while to get over.

They look pretty. It sounds like you have Vince back in recouperate boot camp. I know that you will whip him into shape as per the doctor's orders. It is good that you are together, I couldn't imagine anyone rehabilitating themselves without a partner.

I agree that it would be hard for someone without a partner. He feels tired and weak but he needs to walk and do the exercises, preferably 4-5 times a day. I think without me to remind/push him they might get done once a day but that would be it.

@Juliaacv I can understand the need for that if a person has no support at home.

Glad Vince is up and about. There are a few verges around here that the council has planted wild flowers on. All very nice in summer.

Ireland has a 'no mow May' (I think it's May) It's to give Nature's creatures a chance to multiply without being poisoned or whatever.

@Ronrybs I think it applies to the hedgerows too giving the birds a chance to nest and raise their young.

I've never heard of the term everlastings when connected to plants, but those pink ones look like the strawflowers my grandmother used to grow. I haven't seen any in ages.

'Strawflowers' is another name for them. They're much bigger than the ones in the wild.

We have a bit of bush at the edge of the park and we should check it out for wildflowers. It's a wonderful season here for them but they start further north then work their way further south.
