Did you hear about the woman who died from eating marshmellows?

I am just wondering how anyone could die from eating marshmellows. It was a horrible thing. A 37 year old woman at a children's event in Wales put dozens of marshmellows in her mouth, with a goal of seeing who could do the most. Apparently she ate them, and went off the stage, collapsed and died. I am wondering if it was something unrelated. How could marshmellows kill you? I will be interested to for the cause of death after the autospy is performed. I just feel sorry for her family as her young sons were at the event.

A sugar rush killing you? How does that happen? Not sure I have heard of that one. It was obviously something rather strange though

@Juliaacv Hmm, maybe she had a heart defect that made her prone to that.

@snowy22315 That was what I wondered with suggesting the sugar overload.

Maybe, and definitely too much caffeine can kill you.

@Kandae11 I love caffeine, but I can't have too much. It interferes with my sleep.

I imagine that she could not breathe. Those are the sort of "events" that I would ban. But more and more stupid things are being invented, even online.

@LovesEverybody I would eat a couple of hot dogs at the most. Those contests are dumb. And they even show them on TV.

@snowy22315 i would never as that is a very real possibility. Also, that is so many hot dogs eaten the person doesn't need when there are people who don't have enough to eat and would love a hot dog.

It is hard to imagine what might have happened, but seems her airway might have been blocked..choking doesn't usually happen that fast though like you said It could be it was an un related hear attack or stroke

Marshmallows will cause a baby or small child to choke if they put very many in their mouths at a time, they are “dusty”so I imagine she choked on them. How terrible for her children that were there.

I don't know. They said she just went off the stage and collapsed. It seems if she was choking..she would have done the whole hands to the throat thing I imagine more will come out about it

@MarieCoyle I so much agree with you. I understand your question - who wants to do that. But still there are people who do that. It's like we talked a few times about how we shouldn't discriminate, but still people do. It's the same thing. Who want to do eating contests. But still there are a few souls who want to do that.
It's definitely not safe. But you know, this reminds me of the slapping competition. Power Slap or something at it's called. I don't know the exact name. But have you seen the aftereffects of it? It's horrible. Getting hit that way on cheeks and temple area isn't good.

I guess the autopsy will give more details.

I would guess they got stuck in her throat or she inhaled some instead of swallowing and it blocked her lungs.

Wow, that sounds weird. I'd be interested also what the cause was.

Marie posted the story. It actually happened about a year ago apparently, but there is a jury inquest that just started. It seems it was her airway being blocked by one or more marshmellows.

@snowy22315 This is what I thought, those things in large quantity can surely cause a problem.

@sallypup You wouldn't think a big dog like that would choke on something relatively small.

@snowy22315 Once I shared a corndog with my Rufus dog- didn't think about breaking the round piece up. I looked over and saw that he was having obvious trouble. I reached into his mouth and pulled the chunk out and broke it up so it wasn't like a plug. Super scared me.

There was a nurse that was trying to assist her. I think the only thing that might have saved her would have been an emergency tracheotomy.

I think the possibility of choking was quite high.
