Mom/Stepmom Connection

I’m not sure if I mentioned more than a couple times that my late mother knew my now stepmom. Our churches went to youth camp together every summer. Back in her mid 40s my now stepmom was in a car accident with her best friend. Her best friend sadly passed away, and Diana (my stepmom) almost died. The day of the funeral, my parents stayed with her in the hospital while everyone else went to her friend’s funeral. She was in a coma, but if she woke up, they didn’t want her to be alone. Diana says she remembers it like it was yesterday. The first thing she saw when she came out of her coma were the faces of my parents. I found that out a few years after she and my dad got married, and thought there was something touching about that.

That does sound like a touching and unique story. No wonder she was open to having a relationship with your father. Everyone needs someone like that in their lives.

I think that was establishing a contact and trust between them, I am glad that things later worked out and even though you lost your mom which is I know is a hard thing at least your dad connected with someone he knew and I think that is a good thing also,

That is such a sweet story. I know that your Dad is a very thoughtful and generous person, and undoubtedly your Mom was also. Your Dad and Diana are very lucky to be able to share their lives together as they are now, and I have a feeling that your Mom is watching down in approval.

Wow that certainly sounds like a "meant to be" for both your dad and her. It's so sad you lost your mom but ironic how things worked out.

They didn’t see each other often, but my mom and Diana really liked each other.

They saw each other at church camp once a year. We lived like two hours away from her, but every summer we’d hang out with her, her kids, and her church. She and her best friend drove to our church one Sunday just to see them (years before the accident). Of course, eventually my parents quit going to church camp when my sister and I grew up.

I actually hear of this type of connection fairly often. Jane's former daughter-in-law had a long fight with cancer. She picked out one of her friends to marry Jane's son when she passed. It really feels like community in those connections.

I am sure your Mom (rip) had her approval for Diana to be your step Mom.

That is certainly very touching. There are some very good people in the world and your 'parents' are three of them.

That is unusual but as long as it works that is what matters.
