So, on my way to purchase the shirt I stopped at Subway, and they were super busy. Of course it is Saturday, and people were probably out doing things, plus it was lunchtime. They had 5 kids working the sandwich line and they were not getting a break..just plugging along. Of course there were those ordering multiple sandwiches. Anyway, although normally I wouldn't tip at a Subway, I felt sorry for them..and put a tip in when I was paying my bill. I hearkened back to a time when I worked a cafeteria line on a busy Friday night in a restaurant, some of the hardest work I have ever done. I didn't last long. I wasn't cut out for that. I think I quit after that night. Also I noticed after I left..The place filled up even more. I was lucky I came when I did. However, when I looked at my check I noticed the tip hadn't been added. Of course, if I was really being nice..I could have tried to get it added..but they weren't set up for that, and I had no cash to put in the jar,,,everything is cards with me. So much for good intentions,

I would not normally tip at such a place, but like you say, they were young and doing a good job and deserved it. I never carry much cash either, although I usually have about $10 or $12 in toonies, which is perfect for such an occasion.

Yeah, if I had some bills I would have stuck a couple in the tip jar for sure

@snowy22315 I have quite a few toonies currently and should add them to the open roll that I have and deposit them. When you don't use them they add up and that's extra unwanted weight.

It was very kind of you to try. That is work I just don’t think I could do in satisfactory manner. I’d go too slow, and someone would get frustrated with me.

It's just hard. It is the same repetitive motion over and over, and it never lets up.

I never tip at a fast food place. Some of them have a jar out.

I wouldn't normally, but they were working their butts off. I like to reward hard work.

At least you had good intentions. Preparing those sandwiches at lunchtime rush has to be a tough job.

Yeah, and you are on your feet for hours rush, rush. Although I noticed this particular Subway had a grade A certification so I guess they know what they are doing

Atleast there was intention and empathy to the young people. Not everyone does not that. I have seen few places who automatically add the gratitude amount to the bill. Some of these add too much as tips. Unfortunate you could not tip them. There is nothing bad to feel about. I understand for those it is definitely tough on certain days and hours. Some of the jobs are unfortunately like that. May be in future, you could have a better opportunity to tip them.Perhaps on a less busier day. But it was very kind of you to show the empathy.

The girl at our Subway says if you add a tip to your check it gets totaled up for the week then split with all the workers, but if you put cash in the cup/jar only the one working gets it. Of course our Subway is often an one person show.

That's a pity but at least you meant well. 'Meaning well' doesn't pay the bills though, does it?
