Real vs. Fake

I see a lot of fake nails on women these days, and often they are looong! Do you keep your real nails like they are, or do you go with fake? I don’t get manicures because I wash my hands so much I feel like the polish just comes off too easily. Gel nail polish lasts for a long time, but the process seems to take forever. I had one gel manicure once, courtesy of my sister for my 25th birthday.
How about you?

I truly do hate the long, fake nails. It makes it hard to do anything, I don't think I could sew well, or cook, or play in my little garden. I especially hate the long, pointy ones! Good grief, that makes no sense at all.
The daughter of a friend of mine started working in a nail salon, as she thought it would be fun, and got some training for that. She said she was simply shocked, that the dirt and grime under those long, fake fingernails was disgusting. She said the women were always afraid they would chip their polish, so they just tried not to wash their fingertips. That's one big YUCK from me!

Oh, that sounds disgusting. I’ll just say it too: I don’t like the long, pointy nails either. I do not understand them at all. Have you seen the women with real nails, but they let them get to so long, they curl over themselves? So gross. Because unless they use polish, the nails look brown.

I think they look foolish. And some women choose to spend so, so much money on nails!
True story here.
I was at the grocery store once. A young woman was at the next check out next to me. She had fake braids that were nearly to her knees, those molded eyebrows ( I forget what they are called) and the lash extensions that look like black spiders....and nails so pointed and so long, they hurt to look at them. She was pushing a cart with an infant in it...and I watched her put a few things aside as she told the clerk ''I'm a little short on money, I didn't know my braids would be $400 this time...so she didn't have enough to get what she needed, but she had money to get what she wanted. And weirdly, all I could think of afterwards was, how in the world does she change diapers on a tiny baby with those wickedly sharp fingernails?? And if you have an infant, it's very important to be clean, more than ever...and yes, a person has to wonder how clean it is under those fake fancy nails. Ugh. Yuck, yuck!

@MarieCoyle Sadly, I see that in my apartment complex. Braids expertly done, brand new Nikes, and they are headed to the food bank because they don’t have money.

I have had 2 manicures in my entire life. My daughters wanted us all to get our nails done for their weddings...I opted for my usual short nails with clear polish. It took all of 5 minutes! That's as much as I want to do to mine.

my fingers and nails are fairly broad and I don't think fake nails would look good on them at all besides they aren't my thing. I do have nail polish on now, which is sort of uncharacteristic of me, because I can't keep them looking nice when they are polished, but this is clear polish, so it isn't a big problem.

I don't know how they do anything. I end up trimming mine back after they get so long

I keep my nails short so I can type. In junior high I was known as the girl with the long, long nails. Have a great day.

my hands and nails are so busy a manicure does not pay. I would not keep them long if I could. Do you know how much yucky stuff hides under long nails?

I have real nails and i only add polish to protect them when they get torn. I have always wished to have long beautiful nails but I know that it is part of those dreams that will not come true.

I dislike the long fake nails, my husband dislikes even more! I do not even want to think at the dirt under those long nails, that reminds me the witch in the Disney's Snow White movie.
Sometimes I apply transparent polish, that never lasts long.

My nails are naturally strong and grow quite fast, so I never felt the need for fake nails. I like keeping them relatively long but no more than an inch. They also need to be cleaned thoroughly as they collect dirt easily. I had gel manicure once but it's too expensive, I'd rather apply nail polish myself even if I'll have to retouch every other day. I also believe I need to let my nails breathe every now and then.

Ugh. I think the really long nails are so ugly. And I wonder, "How does that lady even get anything done with those!?" I don't mess with my nails at all--it's been ages since I even painted them.

I keep my nails short and don't polish them. I've never understood how some women can have such long nails and not poke their eyes out. Always makes me wonder how they do things.

I paint my nails maybe three or four times a year.
I just cant do the long fake nails, I don't want to put the effort into them to keep them up.I have had them done a few times thought, they just get in the way
