There went ten years of my life

Friend made it to our house for tea. We were having a good time talking, eating cake and drinking tea. Hanging out. It's been a typical Autumn day, gray and gloomy out, a little rain. I'd put the pups out in the yard- first glanced at the front gate. It appeared to be closed so I let them out to go stare at squirrels. About a half an hour later I realized there wasn't any noise coming from the yard. I looked out and oh Gravy!! The gate had come unlatched. Panicked me. I grabbed my car keys, said I had to go. I drove around the neighborhood, drove up onto the main drag- about two blocks away. NO pups anywhere. Finally went back to the house, thinking about calling the police. There was both Rufus and Moxe! Rufus scooted into the yard easily but Moxe was having issues on how to get through the gate. My heart beat slowed down to normal. Both pups . were huff puffing like they'd been running. At least they were safe and in one piece.

Agreed @allknowing. The grass is always greener somewhere other than in their large yard.

@sallypup It's hard enough to figure out where some people have gone, let alone a pet. I'm just glad they had the sense to come home on their own, and were OK.

That would have taken a few years off my life too. We just lost our husky to age, but have a small hyperactive dog (think squirrel full of coffee) and she's raced off a few times. Heart attack every time. So glad the pups made it back after a hard run.

@Slicings I love your description- squirrel full of coffee. My Rufus is a black furred Blue Heeler. He ran four feet up my big walnut tree to get at a squirrel. Not joking.

@sallypup Blue Heelers are full of energy and lots of fun. My Romeo is a Chihuahua and I keep waiting to find her in a tree trying to play with a cat.

@Slicings You got it about Blue Heelers. They're also very smart. Rufus is not allowed around little guys like your Romeo. He is at his worst Biker Dude behavior around little dogs and chickens.
